Grey Knight Land Raider Crusader for the Fabeled GB

Good day,

I heared a few months ago, back in October about this Golden Bolter painting competition, and I was initially on the fence about joining up in it but I was convinced by a friend of mine at the school. I started on this project back at the onset of October after finally taking off the shrink wrap from the new crusader model- and through senior thesis papers and everything that goes along with it I worked on the project over the semester, and finally put the finishing touches on it yesterday.

I've only been playing and well painting for the past two years since I got back into the hobby (I played for around a year back in 3rd edition)- so any comments or suggestions you could give me would be greatly appreciated. (my first painting competition so I'm rather nervous about entering)

And now for the pics: These are the pics that will be sent to the B&C competition (of course unless I'm told there the wrong size/ badly taken/ things should be reworked on the model)

And just two years ago when I got into the hobby, this was the pinnacle of my painting skill:

I repainted the raider pictured here, and off course took off the LR crew (some of you may get the referance with the two crew on the top), as well painted another one over the summer, which pics can be found here on the WIP thread for this project.

Thanks for the comments so far.

Brother Mordeus, I realized about halfway through the model that the paint was becoming rather textured specifically on the purity seals and the whites, my skull white was apparently drying on me = / I've experimented a little bit with watering down the paint, which makes it a little bit smoother, but takes more coats to actually get it on. I still haven't figured out a happy medium as of yet lol. The plus though with the texture sections on the purity seal areas is that well it textures the area- almost looking like it was done on purpose =D

This project helped me a TON with my painting skills, as I had attempted to do things with it that I normally would never of attempted before lol. Down side to this...is I've started to look at my old GK models....must...repaint...them all...

Thank you all again for your comments and your time, it is greatly appreciated.

I have a few other shots of the Daemon's head freehand. If you feel that the pictures blurr or don't work well for the tank I'll be more than happy to take some new shots and see if they work a bit better.

This is close up shot the Daemon head- I've since fixed the uneven eyes since the taking of this pic. When I can my camera working again I'll be more than happy to another new shot of it.

Thank you again for your time.

  • 2 weeks later...

Good day,

Well my break is almost over and I figured that I would take new pics of raider (finally) something that I have been procrastinating for a little while :D

Well here are the new pics, these are the ones that will be (in just a few more moments) to be sent off to the Golden Bolter email.

Well there's the final pics of my submission. Win or lose in this thing I feel fortunate for giving it a go, after I had finished this model I started look at my older GK models and began to repaint. The amount of experiance I was able to get out of painting this thing, as well as trying new things with it (including pushing my free hand skills to the max) I've been able to get ALOT better at painting- and have fully started in repainting my old GK models.

Here's a shot of my newly repainted justicar, compared to a model that was just painted over the summer:
