Sarapham
I would agree here with some that I can be worth it on HQs for the extra punch, but in a normal squad I would probably go with another member of it instead of the PP. rodgambit
On a similar note, has anyone run a heavy plasma list with like 3 plasma cannon dreads and Bjorn and then grey hunters and long fangs with plasma? I have 3 AoBR dreads and was thinking of trying out a heavy plasma list. Grey Mage
Never quite that plasma heavy... in the old codex for quite a while you could only have one PC dread, so I only have one such arm... wich funnily enough goes to Bjorn *that was a happy coincidence :)* But Ive ran Plasmaheavy GH packs for years now and find them very effective. I would reccommend in such an army that atleast half the LFs, and there should be atleast two squads of them to make it work, have Lascannons so you can bust the higher armors. Some Landspeeders with MMs might also do the trick though. Cause unless your fighting eldar or nidz exclusively your going to need it. Rune Priest Ridcully
My wolf lord has plasma pistol and thunder hammer, my grey hunter packs take a plsma and melta gun each, and one of my long hang packs has 2 cannons, got to love the plasma cannons :) but do not tend to give my greyhunters them. atrox_futurus
I tried them out a few times before, but I soon realized that they weren't the way to go. I don't like the idea of taking off a wound from a character because of a bad roll, especially when a single wound can cause so much of a difference. Between this and melta's being cheaper, better at tank hunting, have a better strength, and still allow you to assault, I incorporate as much melta as possible, and don't use any plasma in the army. JCarter
If you're going up against a feel=no=pain army, take every plasma pistol you can get. They won't get back up. Wildfire
A plasma pistol is clearly not worth as much as a plasma gun, in my opinion, so it should cost less. I'm not so sure, at best it's situational. A plasma pistol is a "pistol" (duh) while a plasma gun is rapid fire. The plasma gun can fire more shots or at longer range, but you can't assault. The pistol also provides you with an extra CCW. This becomes more important for models like the wolf lord who generally only have a BP and CCW, in which case the question isn't so much plasma pistol vs plasma gun, but instead plasma pistol vs bolt pistol. I'm even less likely to want a plasma pistol on an IC than I am on a normal marine. ICs want to be in CC, why waste points on shooty if he's not shooting?
