Okidus
I am fighting crons tonight, and he always brings one of the big baddies. What is your opinion on the best anti tech? I am thinking Stern for the cheap 140, and FW, but you still need that 6 to wound him... thoughts? killersquid
I am fighting crons tonight, and he always brings one of the big baddies. What is your opinion on the best anti tech? I am thinking Stern for the cheap 140, and FW, but you still need that 6 to wound him... thoughts? I'd say, stay the hell out of combat with him. S9, 5 attacks and ignoring all possibles means that he will kill anything he happens to bump into in combat. I say, psycannons can help, still wounding on 6's, but ignoring his Inv. In combat, I think the best bet would be hammerhand, then you strike first and wound on 4+. Still hitting on 4+ too, but at least you may cause him to take wounds by number of wounds suffered. Careful though, as when it dies it explodes, potentially killing anything around it. If you have landraiders, they can pump out a number of high strength shots which can help. Purgation squads with four psycannons are expensive, but can potentially kill it in a couple of turns. It is slow though, so it is potentially possible to lure it away from the rest of the necron army (maybe with the terminators), then strike at the warriors while the C'tan is distracted and drawn away. Inquisitor Fox
It depends on if you're running a DH or WH list. Personally as I'm a WH player I'd point Exorcists and Land Raiders at it and shoot it until it falls down... but there's a better possibility. Ignore it. You're fighting Necrons, which means you should ignore the big scary thing (Monoliths, Nightbringer, etc) and go for a phase out. By concentrating your attention and firepower on the basic troops you can eliminate the nasties without ever firing a shot at them. This also helps as these tend to be the scoring units as well, which helps you complete mission objectives. Just a thought ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189016-best-anti-nightbringer/#findComment-2236938 Share on other sites
Justicar Valius
Well if only you couldplay vanilla SM, missile devs are always great against crons (ignore WBB and half decent vs C'tan) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189016-best-anti-nightbringer/#findComment-2236965 Share on other sites
number6
I suggest reading what INP posted again and again until it sinks in. ;) The advice is spot on. Anything not a "Necron" should be ingored. If you have to, feed the big guy a sacrificial unit or two while you phase out the army. You should, in fact, be thanking your opponent for wasting points on such a monstrosity. He's just made your job that much easier. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189016-best-anti-nightbringer/#findComment-2237005 Share on other sites
Brother Nihm
Amen to the above, how do you defeat the nightbringer using vanilla marines? if you have any general suggestions for fighting against necrons please post those too. =)You ignore him and go for the phase-out. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189016-best-anti-nightbringer/#findComment-2237028 Share on other sites
ntgcleaner
It's been said by very smart people. Anything not named "Necron" do not matter. Stay away from anything without the name "Necron" and destroy the ACTUAL Necrons! Phase out is a huge pain for Necron players and he (like said before) just made it a LOT easier for you. Aidoneus
As a 'cron player myself, I'll just echo what INP, #6, and others have already said. Any Necron player who takes a Nightbringer is just asking to be phased out. Here's the order of what to kill: -small squads of "necrons," such as Wraiths, Destroyers, and Heavy Destroyers -easy to kill "necrons," such as Warriors and Flayed Ones outside of Res-Orb range -anything else "necron," such as Immortals, Lords, and anything in Res-Orb range -there is no 4th category, because you phased him out at least 2 turns ago :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189016-best-anti-nightbringer/#findComment-2237471 Share on other sites
Okidus
Thanks all, the game went well, winning 9-4 on Kill Points, an only missing Phase out by 1 warrior. The THSS Retinue was able to kill Deceiver and he blew up killing a bunch of scarabs.
