Heru
Ok I'm pretty sure I understand the way it's supposed to work, but the wording is making me unsure. A model bearing the Mark of the Wulfen has the Rending special rule in close combat. Furthermore he replaces his usual Attacks characteristic with D6+1, rolled immediately prior to when the model makes his attacks. These attacks are made using the marked models' claws and teeth, and hence are not affected by wargear, additional hand weapons and so on, though they may be bolstered by other factors (the bonus for charging, Logan Grimnar's Living Legend ability, etc). The underlined bit is confusing, as if the "Wulfen attacks" replace his "normal attacks" why would they need to say immediately prior to his attacks. That line makes it seem like you get your "Wulfen attacks" and then your "normal attacks". Another confusing thing is in WD 358 where Robin Cruddace (credited amongst others under Games Development in the SW Codex) writes: My favourite is the Wolf Guard with the Mark of the Wulfen, capable of unleashing a potential seven thunder hammer attacks each turn. Obviously not possible due to "These attacks are made using the marked models' claws and teeth, and hence are not affected by wargear, additional hand weapons and so on". So yeah it is confusing (along with the fact they don't just have you replace your close combat weapon with the Mark thus preventing you from buying gear you can't use apparently...). Sarapham
Regarding the "before his attacks are made", its simply refering to the dice rolls, its not the MotW attacks that are made before the normal attacks.. it means that you roll the dice before the MotW attacks as you need to find out how many you get... Schertenleib
Ignore that quote from White Dwarf. Mark of the Wulfen does not allow bonus' from war gear so the Thunder hammer thing just does not happen. As for the other question... Mark of the Wulfen attacks replace the normal attacks, but it is not a set number of attacks. Each time the model is engaged in close combat you have to roll to see how many attacks you will get this time. Heru
Ah ok, yeah that makes sense. Don't know why I didn't read it like that. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189056-mark-of-the-wulfen/#findComment-2237443 Share on other sites
Ignatius
Bear in mind WD can sometimes be confusing due to the gap between time of writing, and date of release (usual 3 - 4 months). The guy in white dwarf (Robin C) was probably referring to pre final dex revision. It gives you an idea of what dirtiness these guys dream up, then have to back track due to play testing! So don't read into battle reports with new dex's too much, there maybe some rules which are slightly different (although the rules they use are by and large the rules we get in the release dex) due to the release gaps.
