First paint a layer of enchanted blue *or if you dont use GW paints a deep royal blue* one each of the teeth, when its dry paint a light coat of a light blue-turquoise, like hawk turquoise, leaving a little of the blue showing, and then drybrush white over the whole bit, leaving some of the turquoise showing.

That is how I would do it.

thanks grey mage

you really are a legend

I use a method that's kinda weird since I still haven't gotten very good at dry brushing and stuff. I paint a thin layer of Ice Blue on the sword, then while it's still wet and fresh, I take a brush with a darker blue, like Ultramarines or something similar, and paint right into the wet ice blue. I kinda mix them and swirl them right on the sword like it was a pallet. It ends ups looking like ice from a frozen over lake or river. Some lighter, some darker, a lot of mix of the two.

sounds interesting do you have any pics you could show us

On this vein, has anyone considered using the clear-coat Opalecent (spelling?) paints? I used them in my Fantasy Tzeentch army, and when the light hits those armor plates and shields, they just GLOW Magic-Lightning-Green. With an undercoat in the method as Grey Mage detailed above, these things are outstanding.

The paints themselves aren't widely available and are generally only found in Art Supply stores, and this technique is best used on larger, flat surfaces, but I'd suggest giving it a whirl. Nothing says "Power" like an axe that literally glows.

On RAGNAR's sword? That's just a toothed big chain sword. Paint it the same as any other chain sword. Take your time and very carefully paint the letters 'frostfang' on it. Or cheat and use a technical drawing pen with a tiny tip (you can buy them from art shops)

Ragnars Sword is a Frostblade... all frostblades are chainswords in the fluff.

There exists Sword versions of the Frost Axe description

Frostblades are chainswords that are mastercrafted from the teeth of ice krakens. This is exactly what Ragnars sword is... if you want to model or paint your weapons differently thats fine- but that doesnt change what Ragnars weapon is.

lol I wasn't referring to that. I know Ragnar's is a toothed blade, but people were talking about ice blue and such which didn't really fit with painting Ragnar's blade.

Frostfang was the ORIGINAL frostblade. And I do believe in the fluff originally they were all toothed weapons. Chainswords and Chain Axes. But for ease of modelling I believe GW ret-conned it into the chain weapons and the 'blue diamond hard' power weapons.

Hmm.. i just had the idea of maybe using shrads of broken glass for the blades of my weapons.

"Many frost blades use diamond-sharp fangs of the ice kraken for their chainsaw blades. Frost Axes are sometimes made from energised diamond, giving them the appearance of blades forged from purest ice."

Now i guess if the chain weapons use Kraken Teeth, then you can make them white.. asuming Kraken dont have ice colored teeth.. which would be odd, but possable. A broken or filed shard of glass would be intersting for the blade of the swords and axes though.. i might have to do some testing if i ever get around to rebuilding my army.
