Would You Field This?

Im looking over the Codex and I think that of all the terrifying unit combinations in the game this might be one of the worst IMO. Just wondering what you think?

Plasma Pistol

Power Fist

Yes I know its over a 1/4 of your army in a 2000 pt game but the say the BC disembark and unload flamers, plasma, and bolt pistols and then assault into CC with Wolf Priest support. Jeesh!

Yeah, plenty of people field something similar... I wouldnt include the Plasma Pistol personaly, and Id give the wolf priest a WTT and MBs, maybe runic armor. Dont forget to give your LRC a MM either... Its just not complete until theres a MM on it.

Don't forget the amount of fire comeing from the crusader, With everything combined thier might be nothing left to assualt.

In that case I'd drop it from the BC but add it to the WP. I like PP though so just something I'd do.

@ the OP. Yes i would field this. As the others have said. Drop the plasma and get a multimelta for the crusader and there you go.

wolf priest is a better option due to the preferred enemy rule as long as they go after the target you aim for from the start. 15 guys with rerolls to hit is like 60 hits + your priest how ever you tool it out. i dont care for power fists as much as i used to, miss using 3 out of 11 and the 1 base attack due to no bonus for additional CCW after the first round of combat seems more of a handicap. plasma pistol loses the appeal due to the 15 pt cost and the BS3 for a group you dont want out shooting, and to be fighting up close its just not in my game plan.

It's certainly a big nasty unit. I tend not to use them as much, although that load out is almost exactly what I'd use if I did. Just drop the plasma pistol entirely in favor of a multi-melta on the landraider. The plasma pistol is never worth it at it's current cost, but especially not on a BS3 model. I'd only consider plasma pistols if they were 7-8 points or less (on BS4 or better models, BCs would have to have 5 point plasma pistols before I'd get them).

 

As far as terrifying units, I can think of others I'd fear more.

never saw the new FAQs, and as ragnar is so expensive id still say Oath of war > Furious charge for our bezerk friends.

Negatory- it says you choose to use a particular rule. If you roll to see how many attack youll get you are quite stuck with it- for better or worse.

i believe he is talking about 14 BC + ragnar + wolf priest = prefered enemy with furious charge. i personally use ulrik with 15 BC 2 flamers and a PF in LRC. very effective against bikers and monstrous creatures. not so useful against IG or eldar but who needs rerolls against them.
