grunak
Hello fellow wolf lords. Recently started my own army of the sons of russ and thought I would show you my color scheme. Night Runner
I like it a lot. Your painting is really neat and the colour scheme is is very SW. :) The only thing I don't like are the eyes with pupils on the wolf helmet, I would have painted them all green like glass visors on normal marine helmets but that is just my preference, it doesn't take away anything from the paint job. I would also drybrush some white on the ends of the wolf tails. It would give them more dimension, but they still look good to me. Post more pics when you have more models ready, and keep it up. Beef
As night Runner has already stated your painting is neat which is good, As for the eyes I like them, its just that they dont really fit the helmet. however if its anything to go by your helmetless heads should have nicely painted eyes on them, post more pictures up Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189138-my-color-scheme/#findComment-2238825 Share on other sites
grunak
Thanks for the kind words guys. Regardings helmet and eyes. I wanted something different then the regular black wolf head models and went with the same color as my shoulderpads. I wanted the eyes to look abit like actual wolfs eye but I am abit unsure about them aswell. I reckon I will paint the next wolf head with traditional marine lens eyes and see which I prefer. Got a few more guys painted up and will try and throw the up if I can snap a few photos during the weekend. Rune Priest Ridcully
what colors do you use, my wolves are a bit of a mish mash of variations of the either shodow grey drybrushed over codex grey or that reversed, I need to repaint a few wolves and that picture is nice, it's tempting me to buy the new box even though I have to play 2000pts games to fit most of my guys as it is, so hopefully if it is okay with you would I be able to use that color on a few of my older wolves who need repainting. Also, what is a better color for the shoulderpads, orange or dark purple, I've been using the orange for a few years now but am now thinking perhaps a dark purple on the shoulder pads could look nice. grunak
Hey Ridcully, glad you like the color. My method is as follows. Basecoat with a mix of 12 parts mordian blue and 7 parts space wolf grey. Then wash the whole thing with asurmen blue and badab black. Drybrush with the mordian/space wolf mix and hard edge highlight with mix with a little white added. Hopefully this was helpful. Not sure about shoulderpad color,I went with both shoulders dark red as I didnt like the traditional yellow. Havent tried purple but might look cool, always worth a try. Night Runner
I'm not trying to be cheeky or sarcastic in any way whatsoever, but does it make that much difference if your mix is 12 parts to 6 parts, would the tone vary that much after the washes and drybrushing; because that way it would be a 2:1 mix. This seems much more manageable. Edit: Just to be clear, I am saying this because mixing 12:7 requires larger amounts of paint and probably more waste due to drying. 2:1 requires less paint on the palette and less waste. grunak
Hi Night Runner, actually I got the recipe for the color from a youtube vid,so I just follow the numbers he gave. I mixed a big batch of the basemix in a pot so drying is less of a problem, but a 2:1 mix would probably be the same, more or less.
