Wildfire
Statically, a 5+ with a reroll has a better chance of happening than a 4+, which is why people prefer Wolf Claws Only barely, though. 50% to 55%. Probably not worth paying the extra points. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189265-canis-vs-wolf-lord/page/2/#findComment-2241610 Share on other sites
Godhead
I still think fielding Canis with a Wolflord is only worthwhile with Fen wolves. If you aren't going to field multiple squads of those, then WGBL kited out similarly (or prob a better bet is frostblade with storm shield) and sage of the warrior born would do more for you. Plus if you are going for cheap troops, id prob go WC/SS instead of the frostblade on the WGBL to help the saga along. Coverfire
two things about Canis that I don't get... Why the Balistic Skill, he would have to be cheaper without it right? and why no invulnerable save? So I would take a Wolf Lord or Battle-Leader over Canis just to get that inv save Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189265-canis-vs-wolf-lord/page/2/#findComment-2242411 Share on other sites
Godhead
A battle leader only gets an inv save when you give him a stormshield these days. So if you gave a WGBL similar gear to Canis, then he would be missing an invuln save too. Wispy
-Kinda sickeningly survivable: T5, 2+/3++, essentially 2 extra wounds from the Fenrisian Wolves, etc. Are the Fenrisian Wolves still a good idea now that the FAQ says to treat them as a seperate targetable unit in close combat? I find I lose them by the time I get into assault, anyways. Probably not worth paying the extra points. Dual wolf claws is not worth the points compared to FB+bp. However, why anyone would take FB/SS instead of WC/SS (which happens alot) is beyond me. The WC/SS combo is slightly better AND slightly cheaper. So what gives? In terms of wounding the FB wins against t7 (just barely) and t8 (crap chance anyway). Against anything lower the WC wins and in cases where wounding is very likely anyway you can reroll tohit instead. And as to the reason why Wolflord>Canis. Wolflord can take a SS or BoR while Canis cant. The end.
