yes the beliefs part will be expanded on, don't worry

yes, i did think about that part a few minutes ago...and yes even though the odds were completely against them, they think that corax could have done better...even though there was no way he could have done better...so yes they are very arrogant and prideful.

hmm...yes maybe they could use minimum stealth...even though they don't like it...but why? for a better impact on the foe?

thanks!

Why? Neccessity. Without stealth, they'd run the risk of losing lots of marines like Corax did - the very thing they're so shamed by.

They have to make use of the sneaking that they despise so much. That's some nice irony.

Besides, stealth comes in many flavours. Using slower, harder-to-conceal units to draw fire so that other, fast/assault units can move uninterupted to the point from which they can do the most damage might be a fun angle to take. More deception and diversion than actual sneaking, although of course you'd still need some sneaking for the best effect.

and as i put in the fluff that they favoured tactics which involved the minimum amount of brothers getting killed, it would fit perfectly...yes! thank you ever so much Ace!!!

you really have earned your +1 in the constructive comment count!!

Edit: posted some new stuff in the battle doctrines section. should it stay there or be moved to somewhere else?

"The White Ravens' main belief is one that goes back many millenia, all the way back to the Horus Heresy, at the Battle of Istvaan V. They believe that here, their primarch, Corax, failed his duty to the Emperor by loosing to the legions commanded by the Warmaster Horus. Even though the odds were too high for the Loylist's to win, they still think that Corax failed and therefor do not follow his teachings as they could possibly make them fail their holy duty to the Holy Emperor of Mankind."

'losing' not 'loosing' and an 'e' on the end of 'therefor'

But enough of such pedantry! :)

It might just be my ignorance of the Raven Guard but I still remain unconvinced. Didn't Corax resort to guerilla warfare because he knew he would get battered in a stand up fight? Is this type of insurgency not the accepted way to combat a superior force or did he 'stand up and fight' and suffer such losses that his legion had to resort to more clandestine methods in the prosecution of their campagns? In either event it does not in itself explain the White Raven's preferred tactics.

The White Ravens acknowledge that Corax couldn't have won but still resent his defeat? I would explain what they found unacceptable in Corax's tactic in the battle of Istvaan V and thus explain why they are so divergant from the infiltration techniques currently used by the Raven Guard + successors

I have to admit I like the originality of your idea in a chapter that shuns its own primarch I just think you need to think out the reasons for it and explain them in more detail.

Good luck with it bud - not gonna be easy but when you get it right it'll be good. Oh and btw, Lo Chang is no more! Cheers for your advice :D

Actually, when I said slower units in my last post, I meant durable things like dreadnoughts or tanks, rather than tactical squads.

Tactical squads, to my mind, could then be used in support of assault or devastator squads, or even to increase the firepower and visibility of the diversion. (Rather than form the diversion themselves)

The controversial line about the proud sons of Corax could also be changed thus:

"As descendants of the Raven Guard and fellow sons of Corax, the White Ravens share the same flaws in their gene-seed."

You've also copied the 'humble entry' bit in your signature from me. Don't think I didn't spot that. :P

I'll try and think of a good reason for the White Ravens to be disappointed in Corax at the battle at Istvaan, but right now my poor brain is having none of it.

ok thanks to all!!!

i'll correct mistakes as soon as i can (got lessons now and i've got a hellovalot of work to do before the half-term finishes on friday so there may not be an update until sometime after that.

sorry about all this, but i'm sure you can wait for a bit ;)

again thanks for all the C&C. me not updating until friday doesn't mean you should stop posting!!! :D i'll still be checking in to see some other things.

Here's my comments:

The White Ravens were created towards the end of M.39 (probably 24th founding) to guard the south-western border of the Imperium against threats that could come from beyond (Tyranid Hive fleets and other Xenos threats).

Don't mention the Tyranids, they came much, much later.

The Voxen inhabitants (called Voxii) are not particularly violent people, even though feuds are frequent between tribes.

Doesn't really make sense, if they weren't that violent why would they bother declaring a feud?

Even though the odds were too high for the Loylist's to win, they still think that Corax failed and therefore do not follow his teachings as they could possibly make them fail their holy duty to the Holy Emperor of Mankind.

It's loyalist, I rather like this - please expand upon it

One of these tactics, more used against horde-based enemies, is a diversion using a handful (usually six, to make the effect of a big prey to slaughter even greater) of Tactical squads, performing a mock retreat to draw the enemy forces with them so that at least one of the flanks or even the rear of the opposing army is shown to the Assault squads, kept in reserve, so that they are able to strike deep into the heart of the enemy, while Devastator squads, also kept in reserve or concealing themselves in some piece of terrain on the outskirts of the battlefield pour round after round of ammunition into the flanks and/or to weaken the assault against the mock retreating Tactical squads.

Probably too much detail. Be general, don't go into too much detail.

Eventually each Marine's skin becomes pure white while their hair and eyes darken, becoming black as coal.

Question, how would your Chapter feel about gaining the looks of one who failed in his duty?

Some, potentially, really interesting stuff here. I'll keep an eye on this topic.
