To disable a Hammer unit you do not smash it with a bigger hammer. You strip away it's benefits to the point it becomes a grossly over priced average unit. If that's a huge disgusting close combat unit of doom then you feed it speed bumps so it eats them in a turn and then gets shot to pieces the next turn.

Did playing against Necron armies with C'Tan and Monoliths teach you nothing of strategies? When did you ever win by charging headlong into a C'Tan in close combat, or focusing all your lovely big instant kill weaponry into the 'lith?

Quoted for truth!

That is a different Hammer altogether and requires different tactics. But if you have a unit that can wipe out a unit of let's say SS/THs without breaking a sweat, I say go for it. It's worth the look on your opponents face.

I just can't dop grey hunters with him. Not when I can use WG and get even more attacks and way more melee weapon options for only a few points more. Why have 5-6 more grey hunters when you can have a squad that can toast 3 or 4 more squads?

Too each their own. That is what makes us who we are. We each see a different way of doing it.

Great 'cron players don't use that strategy.

There's a great thread somewhere out, I think may be on dakkadakka, that discusses death star builds and the death star player mindset. It's written with WFB in mind, but as 40k is even less death star friendly than WFB a lot of it translates. It's an amusing read.
