Milchmann
Hey, I know, a lot of you guys love'em and they are a major recognition factor to any Space Wolves army, but I don't like the concept of dogs, of whatever size and form, fighting alongside the super elite of the Imperium. So my question is, what models could I use to represent the rules for Thunderwolf-Cavalry, Fenrisian Wolves and Cyberwolves? I was thinking along the lines of using two berserking Marines on one 40mm base to represent the big ones, two armor-stripped-down Blood Claws on one bike base as Fenrisian Wolves. This makes sense, as the cavalry rule would be covered by their frenzy, making them charge with unnatural speed, their low morale being covered by the fact, that they are still blood claws and thus inexperienced. The rest of their profile is identical with that of a Marine so there should be no problem. The big ones would be so strong and ferocious because of the fact, that two guys with the MotW fight alongside, similar to the guys in "Army of Two", giving eachother cover and multiplying their effectiveness by a score. The Blood Claws would look up to those fellas, thus their "leadership re-roll stuff" could be explained, too. The fenrisian wolves as wargear upgrades for characters would be aspirant Blood Claws and pseudo-bodyguards to the character, being given the chance to prove themselves. So what, do you think? Too crazy? Lame? Stupid? Pathetic? Or even good? I am not planning on using this on big, official tournaments, this army would be only for friendly games and little local tournaments. Please tell me your opinion. Would you do it? Would you perhaps play against it, if well executed? Vlk
"this army would be only for friendly games and little local tournaments." => do it! just use some kind of barbarian models with lots of furs (Fenris is cold, eh?) and axes and it could look really great... I would prefer to use them as those bodyguards as you suggested. Mass "cavalry-like" charges of fur-clad barbarians don't seem really appropriate. But heck, for friendly games, just do it and don't think of consequences. the jeske
the models would be smaller then actual sw on wolfs , there could be problems with LoS. it doesnt matter how many sm you put on a large base , if they are easy to hide behind a rhino when a marine on a wolf cant. Milchmann
@Vlk: Hmm, so how about me using the Fantasy Empire Flagellant bodies and the Fantasy Chaos Marauder Horsemen heads and weapons, along with some sculpted fur on their clothes? @The jeske: Ya, but I would model them sprinting over ruins, rocks and wrecks and stuff. They would be jumping, carrying huge weapons and doing things, that make them appear larger. Even more so, as my marines are "biggerized" and about 1,5 heads taller than a regular marine. I don't think that there should be any LOS problems. Wildfire
I don't actually use SW models, but back when I was using 13th Co rules I used my Brettonians and called them aspirants using the wolves profile. plaguewolf
you could take some 13th Company Wulfen Guard as fenrisian wolves, and as thunderwolves you can put some fur on Beastmen minotaurs and cut of the horns and ad some more GS, Im not sure how big they are but they look big enough. then you got the mark of wulfen stage by stage ;) just an idea. ChainsawDR
sorry to be finicky (don't know if thats the right word, dont want to come across as being funny), but if you're stripping them of their armour to account for the increased speed then how are you explaining their increased toughness? as to me it's decreased. Milchmann
Nah, I'm only stripping the Fenrisian Wolves count-as models of their armor, because those wolves only have a 6+ armor save. The Thunderwolf cavalry is going to be made of fully fledged battle brothers, but enraged. :P And those Bears are awesome! Remind me of the Bear Riders of Heroes of Might and Magic V. Anyone played that? Amazing. Hmm, still don't like the Idea of Marines riding animals, but a bear seems more likely than a fricking dog. Thanks for the hint! A thunder wolf is bigger then a bear. much bigger. and it is a bit harsh caling such a beautiful creature a "dog". If you dont like wolves dont play with space wolves. stinkenheim
or if you dont like space wolves riding wolves then do something you do like and ignore people who complain. it was mentioned a while ago about using the old wulfen models as TWC by mounting a few on a larger base with rocks and such like to add height. as for the unarmoured guys as normal wolves, that im not as sold on but thats just me. providing you explained at the start of the game what they were i wouldnt mind Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189347-no-dogs-in-my-army-please/#findComment-2242123 Share on other sites
ironking
if you have read the Ragnar fiction (Space Wolf - William King) the idea of having normal Fenrisian warrior tribesmen is not a bad idea - some Marauders would do nicely as "counts as fenris wolves" - like the aspirant idea. Then for TWC massive werewolves - maybe something like the werewolves or wulfen of the Rakham mini range? Thunderpup
For TWC you could try converting up some sort of 4 legged Dreadnought type model. <shrugs> Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189347-no-dogs-in-my-army-please/#findComment-2242239 Share on other sites
Milchmann
Hmm, but how to justify the increased speed and equal T and S of those tribesmen compared to a Marine? Liking the Rackham idea.
