Death Wolf
A few days ago I was writing up an army list because I was bored and came to realise that rather than write Wolf Lord, I was writing the name I had given him, Branek Stormfang. I looked over the list of things I have in my collection and was shocked to discover that while the list of what I have only had 1 character on it I had given a name to, the list of things I have yet to buy (my new years resolution is to completely finish my great company! I mean painting all 100 or so space wolves and writing the fluff for each character I name.) a whopping 27 characters had names! HQ CHARACTERS: Wolf Lord Branek Stormfang Wolf Priest Svengar Rune Priest Thorgrim Wolf Guard Battle Leader Durdin Wolf Guard Battle Leader Gunnar ELITES CHARACTERS: Iron Priest Agnar Iron Priest Osric Wolf Brother Girom Wolf Brother Odin Wolf Brother Bjorn Wolf Brother Gest Halldor Wolf Brother Alrik Wolf Brother Asvald Wolf Brother Egil Wolf Brother Loki Wolf Brother Loken Wolf Brother Gerri Wolf Brother Hakon Wolf Brother Harald Wolf Brother Johan Wolf Brother Kol Wolf Brother Leif Wolf Brother Olvir Wolf Brother Bekan Wolf Brother Sven Wolf Brother Skald Wolf Brother Beinir Amazing what happens when I get bored. So does anybody else name their Space Wolves? And if so, can anybody beat my 27 names? Night Runner
I like Osric a lot. Fist time I've heard it. But I would never call a SW Loki. In my language Loki means toilet. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189510-naming-your-space-wolves/#findComment-2244182 Share on other sites

Ven.Dread Greatclaw
I always name my HQ, Wolfguard and Dreads based on norse names common in the viking era. HQ and Venerable dreads get full names and wofguards and normal dreads only get surnames or nicknames. And for the fun of it all my vehicles have nicknames based on norse mythology items or creatures depending on whats most fitting. Quillen
I go the other route and use Old English Celtic and Norish names. Since the world was settled by all people, but way in the Future I try and make them sound a little different. I even have some wonderfully painted borther men in my list as the guys from that island chain have darker skin. I knew that since I was six, but it doesn't change the fact that the name has an intrinsic silly connotation due to my linguistic heritage. ;) So, personally I want use it. It would turn my model into a magnet for insults at my local gaming club. Steingrimr
Yes, I agree with a couple of people here. The names are good here, but I use old norse names, myself. I get them and their meanings to reflect the character themself. For instance, Steingrímr means 'Stone Mask'. Hfran Morkai
I did have names for all my characters, then my laptop died and I have yet to see if the backup program did it's work (using a borrowed computer) I looked through a dictionary and found names that seemed to fit what I wanted the character to represent. I had named: Wolf Lord 2 Wolf Priests 4 WGBL's Iron Priest and I was considering going through and naming my thirty odd Wolf Guard, but I might need a new army list. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189510-naming-your-space-wolves/#findComment-2244332 Share on other sites
Sarapham
I like Osric a lot. Fist time I've heard it. But I would never call a SW Loki. In my language Loki means toilet. Loki or Loke is a god in the norse mythology. I would not use Loki or Loke in a space wolf army since Lukas for all intents and purposes is Loke, so if anything just add it as a nickname to him. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189510-naming-your-space-wolves/#findComment-2244454 Share on other sites
Lord Howland Greywolf
I give them names or titles based on dead's when they earn them, with exception of my characters. Skirax
I just make up decent sounding names at the time; for example, my Iron Priest is called Olaf the Bloodsmith. BadRob
Norwegian Black Metal bands are a great source for space wolf names. I'm looking to theme my army that way. Roland Durendal
I got with the tried and true Norse Gods / Saga characters Rune Priest is Master of Runes Odin Wolf Lord is Wolf Lord Tyr Lone Wolf 1 is Thor, The Lone Berserker, Seeker of Doom Lone Wolf 2 is Baldr, The Lost Brother, He Who is Bound in Chains And then the packs all have a viking related name. Standard fare I assume Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189510-naming-your-space-wolves/#findComment-2248433 Share on other sites
