Bloodmange
As everyone knows GW hasn't released minis for Fenrisian Wolves. My plan of attack is to use Chaos Warhounds for standard wolves and Vampire Counts' Dire Wolves for Cyber Wolves (I plan on cutting off the chaosy parts and greenstuffing as need be). Now these two SHOULD fit on the standard 40mm base and Ive seen and heard on the forum that people are doing the same. My problem is I got the Hordes War Wolf mini which wont fit on a 40 but will fit on a 60mm terminator base. My question is do you think it would be ok to use the Warwolf mini (and probably the other wolf Laris) as wargear Fenrisian wolves since the book portrays them as stronger and fiercer since they've been with there lord longer and just go with the GW wolves to represent the normal wolves? Niiai
I am a person who uses chaos hounds (green stuff the ears and the tail unles you switch it with a fire wolf) and it works great. I would not have a problem doing what you are suggesting. I think what it boils down to is if you are playing many offesial GW turnaments. I also saw a person using the dire wolf and green stufing longer legs and back, it looked very good. But I would go for it. :) Just do it man! Lord Ragnarok
I'd use the plastic chaos warhounds and cut off the offending pieces like you said if I did not already have 45+ old plastic dire wolves. Go for it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189564-speaking-of-fenrisian-wolves/#findComment-2245037 Share on other sites

SpaceWolf13C
i'm pretty sure they have to be modeled on a terminator base anyways has you cant put a mini on a smaller base. the 1" base doesn't cover as much area as a 2*1" base so you would have to use the 1.5" inch termie base. also since they take up 2 spots in a vehicle that would argue again that they need to be modeled on the termie base. Bran Scalphunter
In older editions the model normally used for Wolves were the Wolves from the Warhammer Fantasy Goblin Wolf Riders regiment. Those were mounted on cavalry bases and the 3rd edition Codex showed them on cavalry bases. However, since GW never officially released a Fenrisian Wolf model besides Fangir and the OOP Freki and Geri, there isn't anything official. If you want to go with Freki and Geri's precedent, they were both sold with cavalry bases. Fangir is on a Dread base, but he's a unique model. @ Wispy: More than a few units use cavalry bases, the only base shape to be in both 40k and Fantasy. Up till the new bikers, SM and CSM bikes were on the old base, as were Ork Warbikers and IG Rough Riders. There's nothing that says cavalry bases are WFB only. Natanael
I'd like to see that. I think the Golin wolves are way to small, but maybe you could prove me wrong Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189564-speaking-of-fenrisian-wolves/#findComment-2245662 Share on other sites
LakotaWolf
they come to shoulder height on the Marine......though they dont have the girth of Fangir (Canis Wolfborn's wolf) I dont belive they should......he is considered larger than normal and a special character........normal mount should look puny to him Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189564-speaking-of-fenrisian-wolves/#findComment-2246847 Share on other sites
Night Runner
i am working on a conversion to make Thunderwolf Cavalry from the Goblin Wolf Rider wolves and the Biker legs I assure you those wolves are rather small for SM mounts. Think it over properly before investing in that project. Grey Mage
not using square bases in 40k. No sir. As Bran and Niaii stated, cavalry bases are indeed present in 40k- as are 40mm square bases. There is in fact no rule anywhere that says you have to use round bases in 40k- you are avised to use the base the model comes with. Thus, a daemons player could field and entirely square based army for example. Im still thinking about getting some of the chaos warhounds, Im not entirely solid on the idea yet- if anyone has some conversions theyve done Id love to see them. SamaNagol
They sell round ended bike bases now. Before then you had to put them all on cavalry bases. Bloodmange
Well, I finished two wolves today, not to happy about the tails but that simply stems from a lack of GS skills hopefully I'll get better. I decided to go with terminator bases for the whole unit since as was said before they take up 2 slots in trans ports and give the warhound's pose the base should work well I think. I'll keep you poseted and hopefully have pics soon.
