Very Old Black Templar Army

An Angry Marine

Recommended Posts

I'd like to show you all my Black Templars which I painted some odd years ago (7 or 8 years ago; when my painting was very bad :D ). This was my first army ever completed at a reasonable 1500pts count. Note you will find very "novice" and/or very odd, conversion ideas throughout the pictures, a cookie if you can find some :) ;

Starting off with the HQ Choices:

Castellan Malthus

For table top standard they look fine. If you want to have a higher standard paint job you can always slowly strip the paint off a few miniatures at a time. Not sure how paint lids will react but plastic and metals are fine with cleaning agents that get used as paint strippers (I want my cookie now :P ).

It is posts like this that make me realise just how old our Codex is and how long I've been slowly collecting my Black Templars.

Messanger

Edit - just want to echo what Captain Agosto said. Your guys look better then alot of my stuff that is still sitting in their boxes waiting for me to assemble them.

They look good enough for the tabletop. Though you won't win any prizes for painting, they are decent enough. If you want to strip them I suggest Superclean. It's a poweful engine degreaser that once they've soaked for a day or so (the longer the better) you can tak a tooth brush to them and the paint just peels right off. It's also totally safe for plastic models. Won't damage them at all, though it will probably dissolve the glue. I know a guy at my LGS who's had a mini in superclean for about 8 years or so and it's still as solid as the day it was made.

Reminds me of my 1500pt Bretonnians paint job.

*sighs*

I like the Power Sword thats held in a bolter right hand.

Edit: I have some old SWs that have a similar hand holding similar weapons.

@Hadafix: This army looks to have been made before the BT Upgrade sprues came out, when there werent alot of options but bolters for most marines.

To the original poster: I'm not a fan of the shiny finish. I'd probably hit these with a coat of matte finish sealer. Otherwise, they look fine for their age. The pictures are kind of dark, though. So the detail is hard to pick out. The paint pot tops are a novel idea!

Other than the Rhinos, the paint job looks good to me.

Why the bolters on the troops?

Why not?

I usually field at least 1 crusade squad of bolters, plasma gun, and a heavy (Missile launcher, plasma cannon, or lascannon, normally). I'll put them in a rhino or drop pod and sit them on an objective. We're still marines, after all. We defend quite well.

Whats the Castellans power sword arm made of? Cant quite place it from that view...

And any chance fo another (closer) pic of the middle guy from this picture? (Sword Brethren Squad Farrden-Cont.)

The Castellans power sword arm is actually a fairly simple bitz swap conversion using the space marine commander's bionic chainsword arm and the sword from that same sprue. Again a very simple conversion.

As for the middle guy from the SwBS, like the old saying goes, "ask and you shall recieve";

Does anyone know of a useful paint stripper for both plastic (including paint pots) and metals which won't erode the models? Thanks.

Here is the most comprehensive thread about removing paint on B&C (I think). I've used dettol on metals without any problem and I know a couple of people have said it works absolutely fine on plastics (I can find the thread if you need), so Dettol should be fine for what you need. Simple Green is another good choice, but I know of a few threads that have said it doesn't or is a bit slow to work.

Check the thread out, it's pretty comprehensive!

Dettol works fine on plastics. Have used it myself.

Put the dettol in some.. can? Here's pic on what I mean:

Ofcourse without the beans.

-Put the dettol in there, undiluted. Be sure to keep the cover so that you can shut the can (some people think dettol stinks).

-Dont fill the can till the top. Not needed, just enough so that the mini would submerge, so about 40%

-Put the mini ('s) for about 30-40min in the dettol.

-Get an old toothbrush

-Get some latex gloves

-If you can pickup the mini with your hands, do so. Otherwise fish it out with the toothbrush

-Scrub the mini with the brush, most paint will go off.

-Wash the mini with some warm water.

-If not satisfied, repeat again.

-When you are ready, close the can and keep it somewhere from children's reach. You don't have to throw away the dettol after use, its reusable for a long time!

Mostly I give the mini 2 baths, after the second you will have a mini that looks almost like new.

Works fine on both plastics and metal.

No beans? ;)

No Beans :P

Just one question though; how "resusable" is the solution? Are we taking days? weeks? months perhaps?

I have no idea. I have my dettol in a can for quite a while now. I think that you have to stop when it aint working anymore :P

However I already did quite allot of miniatures with the dettol I have now, so I think its reusable for for a long time.

And another deteriorating lurker spawns to life! *Makes a bow*

Dannis, i wonder what the dutch equivalent for Simple Green or the Dettol is. Where do you, or did you get it? I have some nasty painted Blood Angels dying for a bath!

I tip my hat for your complete looking BT army, for me it's still a long, long way to go.
