guillaume
Right, decision time. I have plenty of DH and I need support for them. I have already found out that seraphims are a great support unit for foot slogging DH army. They can get to objectives and take care of those pesky units that are hiding in buildings and snipping at my grey knights. Through their sacrifice, the GK can then arrive in larger number and slay the heretic properly. I would like to add more WH to my DH army, mostly because I enjoy the two different aspect of the hobby and the game. I wanted to bring a battle of sister unit with heavy flamer and meltagun with vet sister with vet sister super with the book of st lucius and an evsiscerator; all mounted in a rhino with extra armour. Cost: 208 pts (i am using codex rules here, not Imperial armour). But then, I suddenly realised that I could field 6 celestians with a vet sister sup and an eviscerator and the book mounted in an immolator for roughly the same price....and the immolator is fun... Now I like the idea that the SoB give me another troop unit which can help with guarding/challenging or taking over objective. I usually only have 2 troop choices (2 large units of 7-8 GK), therefore more cannon fodder would be welcome. But the immolator is crying out out to me: the flames, the flames! I am right to think that the immolator would fill more of need in a DH army than the SoB, providing a very good fast drive by-flaming option? At the moment, my list 1500 army would look like : 1BC with psy and retimue of 4 with 1 pscy 2 units of 7 GK 1 GK dread (I like the FW model I have of it) 1 GK LR with ML and Lascannon 1 unit of 7 seraphim with 2 hand flamers, 1 vet sup with book and eviscarator (these girls are awesome) This leaves me with 200+ pts to either fill it with Sob or celestians. I could add another unit of GK, but I like the idea of adding more WH. As a support, would I benefit from SoB or from Celestians, Thanks for your input Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189614-rhino-or-immolator-wh/ Share on other sites
wizard12
well, I'd do this in your case get the immolator and 10 sisters leave the turret off the immolator so you can use it's rhino cupola to make a rhino then you can use it as either one, try it out and see how it works. Also, I think you could drop the dread to fit in both units but then you lose some anti-tank your choice Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189614-rhino-or-immolator-wh/#findComment-2245818 Share on other sites
Glaeken Templaris
you can field the immolator/celetian combo but its an elite choise so wont be able to claim those pesky objectives. if its objectives you want stick with the rhino sob combo Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189614-rhino-or-immolator-wh/#findComment-2245902 Share on other sites
number6
For use in a DH army, I think the Troop Sisters in Rhino is a better choice. But give the unit 2x melta guns and don't worry about the eviscerator on the VSS. DH need tank-popping power, the army already has more than enough combat and anti-infantry potential. Flamers and heavy flamers are great, but DH/GKs don't really need them. They do need meltas. And getting all that in a resilient Troops option is hard to beat. That said, going the Celestian route -- again, taking 2x meltas! -- in an Immolator is nearly as valid. You just can't claim, and the unit, being smaller, isn't as resilient. guillaume
ahah, Number 6, as always you are the voice of reason. It does of course makes sense that a unit of Sob would be more resilient. Considering the danger that DH players face when units go "pop" (since we have so few units, every unit is vital), it makes perfect sense to bring the bigger squad. I still feel that the immolator has its place though. I face a lot of ork armies and I could just see that immolator move 6, celestians pop out and the heavy flamers doing a right number on the orcs. I guess it will be situational; and of course as wizard12 mentioned, I can always choose which configuration I want to play depending on my opponent. Thanks.
