The_Hunter
Hey all, After playing Dawn of War for a long time alot of my friends who played it aswell ended up getting into 40k and talked me into getting my own aswell so here i am posting the first marines i have painted. I was pretty suprised with myself how well i managed to make them considering i never had actualy painted anything like this at all (altho the tutorials here were of great help  ). So without futher delay here are the marines i have painted thus far from which i own: http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/5917/hpim1833.jpg http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/2152/hpim1835f.jpg http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/3868/hpim1838.jpg Some closeups http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/5525/hpim1840.jpg http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/9273/hpim1842.jpg only thing that's kinda meh is that the flash on my camera makes them look alot brighter than they actualy are B) AnwayC&C are welcome what do you think of my first ones ? The_Hunter
Thanks for the comments i'm glad you like them. Altho unfortunatly the camera i have is not very good for closeups i tried it before when i wanted to show my first painted marine to a friend and it turned out horrible. I'll see if i can borrow the camera of a friend to see if i can get some better pictures from up close. David the Despoiler
Well done! Very neat. That was one of my biggest troubles when I started painting, keeping the paint where it was supposed to go! Good job. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189628-hunters-word-bearers/#findComment-2303491 Share on other sites
Terrible_Trygon
Very nice for a newcomer. I suggest though that you have a shot at giving the bases a sprucing up using the GW washes. Maybe even a dry brush. It would help the models a lot. I'd go with a brown colour to compliment the red of the power armour. David the Despoiler
Aye, agreed with the above. Bases are one of the most important things in a model, without it, it simply doesn't look "complete." Let us know if you want a particular effect and don't know how to achieve it. :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189628-hunters-word-bearers/#findComment-2303565 Share on other sites
Tyear
From one Dutchie to the next, (And also a Word Bearer collector), these models look great. Definitely a great addition to the legacy of the Word Bearers. The_Hunter
Thanks for your comments as for the basing i think it looks allright on the normal models but the terminator bases look rather bland beeing so large with just abit of gravel so i'm probably going to add some static grass to them later to spice it up abit. I'm not sure if washing them would do them uch good however :D Anyway finnished 4 terminators today which had been converted from loyalist terminators i got from a friend: http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/3630/termconverstions1.jpg http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/8586/termconverstions2.jpg http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/7536/termconverstions3.jpg http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/6356/termconverstions4.jpg http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/2906/termconverstions5.jpg And some pics of all my terminators in a group it shows that they blend in well as i was intitialy afraid they would standout to much :D http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/4068/termgroup1.jpg http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/9451/termgroup2.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189628-hunters-word-bearers/#findComment-2317118 Share on other sites
The_Hunter
Now that i have a much better camera at my dissposal i thought it would give it a go by making some new (and much better pictures) of my painted army: http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/1964/collection1.jpg http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/139/collection2d.jpg http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/7979/collection3.jpg http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/1289/collection4.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189628-hunters-word-bearers/#findComment-2334655 Share on other sites
mega_marines
I really like your Word Bearers, as the paint scheme is strikingly effective, but as mentioned above, I feel the bases are a bit of a let down. While on just one model the style of pure sand and gravel works, the effect on the whole army, or even just a squad looks rather bland. Maybe a spot of a grass or a coating on each base would make the army as a whole "pop", and each model stand out nicely. trautz
i really love your army, it creates an impressive atmosphere, but i dont like your bases, they look to simple and the sand"stones" are too big i think Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189628-hunters-word-bearers/#findComment-2334915 Share on other sites
