Hear da Lamentation
OK, I have a solid base for my Wolves now (thanks go to the wolf brothers for that.) We play 1000points and I have roughly the following RP 8 GH pl,pw,ws 1 WG pf,cm Rhino 9GH pl,pf,ws 1 WG pf,cm Rhino Dreadnought 6 long fangs (2xpc,2xml,hb) WG bare. Pred / Vind Now, I would love to field Ragnar ... just sounds a barrel of laughs ... and I have 5 termie figures which I don't use. If we stepped up to 1500 points for a game, could I build a 500point unit with those (5 termies and Ragnar), footslogging it with my current army and still be viable? NB we do play on a smaller table, 5' x 3' - so closer to getting into combat. I realise they will be a target .. but I guess I have other decent targets (vindi for instance) which should grab their attention. Main foes are Tyranids and Deathwing, with some orks. Wildfire
Not really. Termies pretty much require a drop pod or landraider. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189768-is-this-viable/#findComment-2248404 Share on other sites
Quillen
Sad but true. You could put him with a squad in a LR thou. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189768-is-this-viable/#findComment-2248486 Share on other sites
the jeske
not enough troops. if a mix of weapons on the LF then 2 las 3 RL . preds overcosted and vindis too short ranged and too easy to kill , specially when used as a single choice. Hear da Lamentation
Thanks guys. Bearing in mind I am happy with my "basic" set up, I hear what you are saying about the termies. Personally I don't like landraiders (the model or it's points cost) - nor do I have one, so I won't be able to go down that route - and I guess 1 drop-pod (which I also dont have a figure for) is going to be pretty risky considering the amount of templates I kick out :whistling: . I guess I could put Ragnar in with one of the GH units in the rhino - giving me a total of about 1250points. Has anyone tried that? Hear da Lamentation
or ... what about putting him in with a bunch of skyclaws? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189768-is-this-viable/#findComment-2248582 Share on other sites
hendrik
why would you put him in there? would make more sense to have him join a grey hunter pack or some bloodclaws Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189768-is-this-viable/#findComment-2248760 Share on other sites
Lord Rao
Ragnar with BCs/Skyclaws/Swiftclaws makes less sense than putting him with GH or WG, due to their Berserk Charge and his Attack bonuses on the charge. Plonking him with the GHs in a rhino is actually a good plan for such a small list, though the inability to assault out of a rhino will always be a problem (but you have that with a pod as well). Personally, I'm not a huge fan of named chars at the best of times, and certainly not in smaller games, as it tends to unbalance them very quickly. In your case you may actually be better off taking a tooled up Lord instead of Ragnar and use the rest of the pts on a small squad of GH, scouts, or an extra gun on the LFs. Hear da Lamentation
Thanks Lord Rao. It's what I thought, but I was just interested in what the Wolves would say to the idea and if they could come up with a way of viably doing it. With all my lists so far I have gone for reliable and cheap (RP and WP) - but was interested in the fun that Ragnar would seem to bring. Thanks again for comments. Quillen
You can do what ever you like. You learn by playing. So try him in the Rhino it will not hurt. He will give them a huge edge in melee. And don;t forget the WOlf Banner/totem to reroll ones. It will help them a ton. I love Land Raiders. I have 6 now. 4 for my old Imperial Lions and 2 for my new Space Wolves. I've pretty much decided to only field Deathwing out of a Land Raider now. Our mutual friends Tyranids have seen to that, with the Mawloc's S6 AP2 large blast and other assorted griblies.
