Skirax
If I was going to buy a Lukas model, what would be the best squad to put him in? A stripped down Blood Claw pack or a tooled up one, because I either see him as a suicide character that could drag down an important enemy model, or a model that gives Blood Claws that needed additional 'Power Weapon' punch in CC and so must be protected. Because I can easily swap models in and out of squads depending on the situation (I bought a few spare Pack boxes, allowing me to make replacement models). Captain Juan Juarez
I personally would say use the minimally-equipped suicide squad option, as from a fluff standpoint (how I tend to view things) this seems like the fairest option. In fairness I dont think you should go in with the idea of getting him killed, but with the secondary heart rule it wouldnt be such a bad thing but the key would be to target a powerful unit or character. nurglespuss
hmmm toughie that one... he's expensive, so you want that unit to 'get there' best way to ensure this is a decent sized squad with transport..... possibly a drop pod.... I don't know, personally, with the reduced leadership, I wouldn't take him. Ullr Direfang
i would say take something more worth 155 points..... i guess i just don't like the guy.... but i would say a not so tooled up one if i ever was going to run him. i would feel my opponent would avoid him or find a way to remove him. my biggest fear would be that he his in b2b with some guys from his own squad and he takes "insert Str 8+ ranged weapon here" to the face and takes out his own squad. and trust me i have be in more then enough situations where every guy left in a squad had to take a wound and the one i needed to stay a live died. EricBasser
I would go in a stripped down pack. Maybe 10 of them, 1 being Lukas, with a Flamer just for kicks, in a Rhino. I've used that load-out in a couple of games, and it's worked for me. Sure, they can't shoot, but assaulting is pretty good. Or, if you're really into the idea of taking Lukas, 9 Blood Claws, including Lukas, and stick a Wolf Priest with them. For my Norse Mythology List, I used Lukas as Loki, and added a Wolf Priest as Mod, then I painted Mistle Toe on the Rhino they use. I get a kick out of it, and people that know that story get a kick out of it too. Suicide Troops seem the be an re-curing theme with Space Wolves. You have Lukas, while not intented to be suicidal, benifits from it. Then you have Lone Wolves that are trying to die. Lastly, I've used Bjorn as a suicidal unit before. It almost won me the game. It was Capture and Control. Last turn before rolling for more rounds. My Opponent went first. I opted not to take the Invulnerable Save. He penetrated and rolled a one. Due to the Venerable Rules, I had him roll it again, he rolled a 6. Bjron was an objective. During my turn, I got my Blood Claws to Bjorn, and destroyed the Land Speeders that were contesting my other objective. It was great seeing my friends reaction to all of that. Skirax
Well, I was thinking of putting him and 15 of his mates in a LRC; I know it's incredibly expensive, but the damage they would cause it is worth it, right? If not, I'll just put ten of them in a DP. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189778-lukas-squad/#findComment-2248361 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
You cant op not to take as ave- either its there or its not. *sighs*. My biggest problem with Lukas+anything is the chance hell go nova at the wrong time, and his expensive nature. I mean, what if that transport explodes? You roll and he dies... and every bloodclaw+the wreck are gone. 650pts down the drain. EricBasser
On page 15 of the Core Rule Book, in the box in the corner of the page under bulletin 5, it states that you "Each Unsaved Wound MAY be cancelled by making a saving throw." Pg. 20 of the Core Rule Book. First Paragraph, first sentence. "Before removing any models as casualties, the owning player CAN test to see whether his troops avoid the damage by making a saving thrown. So far, I can't actually find under the Shooting Phase/Saving Throws section of the book a comanding word that deems one must/have to take their saving throw. evileyevirtue
Lukas can only be killed by an exploding transport if he's only got 1 wound left... so it's not that big of a deal. I run Lukas with 9 BC's with PF and a Rhino. It works out pretty well. I was tying to run him on foot, but that usually got nowhere as everybody just avoided him. So far, he's done pretty well, from taking out a wraithlord to a LRC. He isn't going to pop something huge every time, but if you can put hime somewhere he will, then it works.
