Simo429
Last night I played my first game of 40k ever (well first proper game) and got my arse handed to me It was against necrons the reason I was beat so badly was mainly down to my own inexperience and not knowing what to do I was wondering if someone can suggest simple tactics against each of the enemies I will face on teh battlefield for example I now know with necrons I need to get in as close as possible as quickly as possibe, what else should I be doing? Rocknar
Generally speaking Space Wolves are a close-combat army. That being, said do not forget about shooting. My favorite tactic is having a meltagun in a squad vs any transport then charging the squad inside after the melta blows it up. Rarely happens but awesome when it does. As far as army tactics there are so many different Armies and ways to play them that it is hard to give good advice. However I will give a few pointers that have helped me. Necrons- Phase them out; ignore the monolith, ca'tan, and scarabs. Focus on the warriors, destroyers and lords. If you see a lord with out a unit kill it quick. Because if you kill 75% of the models with the Necron rule they Phase out and you win. Dark Eldar- kill the Raiders! not hard to do as the are paper planes but a good DE player will have 10-12 on the field after that shoot him before he charges you. Eldar- has a lot of specialist troops so make them do the opposite that they want to do IE shoot his Banshees and scorpions before they get to you and charge his Dark Reapers, fire dragons, and Dire Avengers. For his Tanks just shake them then stop shooting at them, you won't destroy them. Guard- kill his tanks with SW scouts OBEL then if possible. kill his Command squads in shooting if possible and watch out for valkres and Vendettas Nids- Stand and shoot from long range then charge before he gets to, and make sure any monstrous creature takes at lest 1 wound before it gets to you. Tau- Suck in hand to hand but have the best basic gun in the game (str5 rapid fire) I am still figuring that one out. Marines- watch out for Librarians and charge whenever possible as we are much better in hand to hand Orks- bewhere of Lootas and nobs. Scouts can deal with lootas but nobs are as hard if not harder to kill then termies. Hear da Lamentation
Sounds good advice to me. I used to play necrons - and for me their greatest weakness was being swept. They aren't fearless (or anything similar) and have an initiative of 2. Beat them in 1 round of combat and you are likely to sweep and kill the whole unit. They cannot We'll be Back from that ... so that kills the entire unit straight off. Do this a few times and you will have reduced their numbers to below 25% - and they will phase out. You win ! 'Nids .... yeah - shoot the hell out of them for as long as possible. Templates work wonders, so missile launchers and plasma cannons for LF. lordsloth
Depends a bit on the kind of army you play (mech, assaulty, shooty, high model count, low model count, ...) Generally something important to keep in mind is LOS (Line of sight) denial. The optimal position for a squad is with a clear LOS to whatever you want to shoot and as little LOS to anything else. That way you can do what you want to do and minimize any return fire. This can be achieved through using terrain, rhino placement and disembarkment, hiding behind other units or such things. Even for assaulty armies, this is a very important concept. It seems obvious (because it is) but im sure most of us still have those moments where we go "darn, could have done that better with different positioning".
