HERO
Red Gore + Badab Black wash or Devlan Mud? Which one would look better?
Rob_Loken
I use devlan mud on the first basecoat of Mechrite Red, the nlet that dry and then overbrush it with more Mechrte Red. For some of them I water down Chaos Black and add it to the recesses for a bit more depth.
Rob_Loken
Sorry for the double post but here's a Sgt I just finished. He needs basing but other wise he's as good as done. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1683.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1684.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1685.jpg

fearlessgod
The more pics you post, the more I like them. About the chest eagles.... are they bleached bone with a wash of Delvan Mud or did you do them differently? I really like the look of the chest eagles. I might "borrow" the technique from you... :P ~fearlessgod~
Rob_Loken
Cheers guys. The chest eagle is done as follows ; Basecoat : Bestial Brown 50/50 mix : Bestial Brown (BB) /Iyanden Darksun (ID) 25/75 mix : BB/ID Straight ID 50/50 : ID/ Skull White (SW) 25/75 : ID/SW Finally hit the very edges with Skull White. It's a bit of work but I think helps the models immeasurably. Well I've finished the Tactical Squad now, they have there heavy weapons maestro and I've started work on their transport option. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1688.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1691.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1687.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1686.jpg Cheers for looking, Rob ps, fearlessgod @ steal away mate ^_^

HERO
What's the paint scheme again?
Rob_Loken
Mechrite Red over a black undercoat. With a devlan mud wash into the recesses. Another over brush of Mechrite Red and an overbrush of Blood Red with highlights in Blood Red and Blazing Orange. ;)
Rob_Loken
Working on another sgt. This one is based on the old BA pic by John Blanche but updated a bit by the use of modern 40k bitz. I thought it'd be cool to hark back to the old style stuff whilst still keeping it modern. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1694.jpg
Liath
It reminds me of my old 2nd edition box, and I have to say it is pretty well done ! Nice one !
Rob_Loken
Thanks Liath. Made some more progress today. Had too many beers to do anything else tonight. :P Anyone got any ideas on what the banding around the melta bomb should be? http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1699.jpg
Midnightmare
Gold sir :P Very well done these boys, keep 'em coming (I wish I could paint so quick!) EDIT - What colour did you base you're Rhino Duncs?? :)
Rob_Loken
Cheers mate, the Rhino was based with Mechrite Red too. But rather than overbrush I stippled the Blood Red on to it. I haven't washed the Rhino at all either. Too many flat panels.
Demoulius
wow thats one bright rhino ;) with regards to the meltabomb, do whatever flats your boat tbh. they have official colour. you did paint him in the exact way that i paint mine though -_- amazing models as ussual brother ;) keep em coming :)
Rob_Loken
Cheers mate, I went with green in the end. I don't think it looks too out of place. So here is the end result. Quite happy with the way he turned out. I may later go back and add some freehand, but for now he's ready for battle. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1701.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1702.jpg Should get the Rhino done by tonight. Demoulius
wow you respond fast :o quik question btw, is he a captain or a sargeant? and regarding the leaf thingy on his back, very nice touch! mind if i "burrow" the idea? :)
Rob_Loken
He's just a sgt though in the artwork I'm sure he is a captain. I'm not particularly enamoured by our captains choices, shall we say. Not when you can have Corbulo for 100 points. Though when our new 'dex get's released I may review the situation. As for the laurel idea go for it man, share and share alike I say. :)
Rob_Loken
I have completed the second tactical squad. So now the Power Fist sarg has some company. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1719.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1720.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1713.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1714.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1715.jpg I tried using some decals on them tonight but lordy they test my patience. Back to the freehand. Once I get me hand on a suitably sharp drill bit I will also drill the melta barrel out.
Vel'Cona
Gotta hijack your second thread here to give a big thumbs up to your progress so far, Duncs. I'm really starting to be convinced that BA scheme over a black undercoat is both possible AND better looking than the bright results I get with a white undercoat. I wonder what sort of result a grey undercoat would give? MUST STOP PLAYING MMOG'S AND PAINT!!! Really quick, and beg your forgiveness if it's already been asked, but what colors are you using for the chest eagles?
Demoulius
hmmm i must say those marines look an awfull lot like mine  except...that....well i dont paint chest eagles as awesome as you do :D aside from that though they look alot like mine :P
Rob_Loken
Well I guess there's only so many ways we can paint red. haha ;) Though I would say that your red seems a bit richer and deeper than mine. Vel'Cona the recipe for the chest eagles is as follows Basecoat : Bestial Brown 50/50 mix : Bestial Brown (BB) /Iyanden Darksun (ID) 25/75 mix : BB/ID Straight ID 50/50 : ID/ Skull White (SW) 25/75 : ID/SW Finally hit the very edges with Skull White. Cheers for looking.

Rob_Loken
I have redone my old Terminator Chaplain today. Nothing major but I think he's got a bit more presence now. I dulled the black armour and added a bit more contrast to it. Also hit all the old gold bits with yellow. It has in my opinion better contrast between the shades and thus stands out more, particularly on the table top. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1723.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1725.jpg and here he is before the refurbishment http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1314-1.jpg
Rob_Loken
I got my Landspeeder up and running. I turned it into a Typhoon with the Missile Launcher from an Ironclad. It looks like a one shot deal, and considering that my Landspeeder only gets one shot off before it gets totalled it makes perfect sense. :) http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1730.jpg And here is an army shot of what I've painted/touche up so far. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1733.jpg
