Rob_Loken
You know I was tempted to make a SP out of the Sanguinary Guard using an old narthecium arm from an old plastic apothecary but I figured I want the Guard done up as the guard first. Might pick up another box come pay day and make an honour guard with them. I'm seriously blown away by the sculpting on them. Good news about the wings. The wings don't attach to the pack, they attach to the back of the actual marine. I'll try and get some pics up by tonight of the progress. sniperous
Are u doing any Death Co, Models? I noticed u have the Dreadnought done, just wondering if you have any more planned? Great paint jobs on all of your models, i like how the white really stand out on the Apoth's models. Looking forward to seeing more, Mike
Rob_Loken
Hey Mike, I bought some of them as well so they'll definitely be on the cards. They're great kits as well. There's more than enough bitz to go round any Regular Assault Squads or Tactical Squads you may want to spruce up. Well I thought I post up the first WIP of my Sanguinary Guard model. He's got red armour because I honestly don't want a squad of all gold marines in my force. Mainly due to the fact I hate painting gold over large areas and also because I like red, and it makes them look a little more like Vlad the Impalers armour in Dracula. So he's at least got a golden death mask. They look like a character I made in Soul Calibur on my PSP. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1881.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1882.jpg
Burias-Drak'shal
Your army is coming along very nicely. Keep up the good work!
Vel'Cona
Hmmmm. I don't know how I feel about the single JP vent. It does give a sleeker outline, but it just seems a little off in terms of balance and symmetry. It definitely looks better without the huge goofy wings, though. I'll have to see when I get my stuff, though I think I'll still be going with the standard JP (probably the ones from my DC box, as I almost definitely won't be giving my DC JP). The weapon looks pretty cool though. Again, excellent painting Duncs! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.
Rob_Loken
Cheers guys. I know what you mean about the single vent JP, I'm still having misgivings about it. But I guess they stand out a bit more.
Rob_Loken
Did a bit more, and I attached an arm to my JP Sang Priest. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1883.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1886.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1884.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1887.jpg

Rob_Loken
They're sweet models definitely. I'll get another set just to make up Dante and Tycho. I did a bit more on a second SG today. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1888.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1890.jpg
IronKobra
The Sang guard look really nice in red! Now what the hell am I supposed to do?! haha I must say I am upset you left the wings off but I know it's a personal choice...I love them myself but as ever, these look really nice bud! Rob_Loken
Cheers IronKobra, I'm sure whichever way you choose will look good. I went with red because I find it difficult to create any depth with metallics, plus the whole Vlad the Impaler thing. I think if I thougt the wings would last more than a week without being snapped off (honestly my luck is about as good as a Lamenter at the moment), I'd have put them on. the next guy will be the Banner bearer, which is really well sculpted. IronKobra
Yeah, I love the new banner! I got one from ebay on its own...Gonna put it on another honour guard squad I have and replace the old blank metal one with it. I am being good and not buying anything until I finish my 3 running projects...although resistance is not so easy...3 lovely new shiny plastic kits and characters...I may cave and buy Lemartes since that model is just awesome. Anyway, back to your blog...Great stuff so far. keep 'em coming!
Rob_Loken
Cheers mate,I know how hard it is to keep on track with one project at a time. All this new shiny stuff isn't helping at all. However, today I've finished 2 Sanguinary Guard and 3 Sanguinary Priests. I've also nearly completed 2 other Sanguinary Guard and started priming the banner bearer. It's been a busy day, but I'm trying to get these guys done before moving on to the Baal Predator. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1894.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1896.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1895.jpg while there is still plenty to do to take these guys to the next level I'm happy to get them all to a consistent TT standard and ready for gaming. Cheers for looking.
sniperous
Good work mate, loving the green on the swords/axe, what colours did you use on the powerfist on the sg?
Rob_Loken
Cheers mate, for the power fist I started by mixing Shining Gold and Scorched Brown together to get a really drak gold. Then I just kept bringing in mor eshining gold to make it lighter. Then I washed it down with Devlan Mud to darken the recesses and finally mixed Chainmail and Shining Gold for the hard line highlights (with this you need more Shining Gold than Chainmail or you'll just have silver). Hope that helps. I'll try and get the Banner bearer up tomorrow if I can get hold of some batteries.
Wicksy
The sanguinary guard look excellent! They look great in red aswell as gold. I think they would have looked nicer with the wings as the greys of thje wings would compliment the red and gold but the models work well. I think its because from the fron they look as if they have no way of prepelling themselves. The smaller single pack is a bit hidden from the front. tahrikmili
Got my other 2 priests started yesterday. Quite pleased with how they're progressing so far. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1877.jpg Lovely. I already painted the model on the left and will paint the one on the right for my old school honor guard. Look forward to seeing the finished jobs! Rob_Loken
Hello all, thought I'd post some updates to prove I was still painting. Unfortunately been a bit pre-occupied lately so painting had to take a back seat. However I have managed to get some work done on these Vanguard Vets. They'll be in a Rhino until I get my mits on a LRC upgrade kit to get me some twin-linked Assault Cannon action. Just finished putting together the Baal Predator and am currently spraying that ready for the basecoat. And I working on a Dev Squad for fun really, just so I can have all the different coloured helmets in my army. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1907.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1905.jpg

Rob_Loken
Brother Nathan @ heck no, those Berzerker bits go perfectly with the BA bitz I reckon, well, minus the Khorne icons. :P Updates all round tonight, the Vanguard have been completed and the Baal is almost finished aswell. Just started on a Landspeeder Tornado as well and getting through my Dev squad slowly but surely. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1914.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1913.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1916.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1917.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae63/Astartes_Loken/PICT1915.jpg

claytonthegreat
just went over your entire thread and I will say that I find your painting skills to be very good. I'm curious if you would happen to have an updated picture as the entire army as a whole?
