DapperDave
I'd really like to name one of my BFG Strike Cruisers after Haegr the Mountain. I was thinking of something like: Haegr's Thirst, but I'm hesitant for 2 reasons. 1) As mighty a wolfblade as Haegr was, I'm not sure he'd have a SC named for him (though maybe Ragnar could pull some strings) 2) The other SW ship in my fleet is named Ironhelm's Fury, and I'm not too crazy about repeating the [name]'s [noun] format. Any ideas? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189838-naming-a-sw-strike-cruiser/ Share on other sites
old git
Have to admit to not reading the novel which features Haegr but you refer to him in the past tense. Does that mean he dies in the story? If so, how about "Blades Lament". This could be interpreted as referring to Haegr personally or to all those brothers who have fallen whilst serving in the Wolfblade (although it does follow the name/noun pattern). DapperDave
In case others read this who haven't read the Space Wolf novels, I'll clarify, I use the past tense only because I've finished with the books. Also, I really like the sound of Blade's Lament... it's definitely on the short list. BlackSpike
For Big Ship names, i always look to Iain M. Banks' Culture novels, especially Excession. Many can be lifted directly, some need a little Wolfyfying. For a big list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ships_%28The_Culture%29 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/189838-naming-a-sw-strike-cruiser/#findComment-2248859 Share on other sites
DapperDave
Wow, thanks for that list BlackSpike! After looking for a few seconds I found a great name for an adeptus mechanicus battlecruiser: the Ends of Invention and it looks like that book series would be pretty interesting, too - that is if I ever finish with Gaunt's Ghosts. BlackSpike
I highly recommend Iain M. Banks. Player of Games is one of my favourite books of all time. Excession is good, and Use of Weapons is scary! His contemporary stuff is OK, but not my cup of tea. Karack Blackstone
Not that funny, but... "Tankard of Haegr" As I recall he liked to drink alot on the go... Or, "Hammer of Haegr" Seeing as he used a thunder hammer if I recall correctly. Ulrik Grimbeard
I highly recommend Iain M. Banks. Player of Games is one of my favourite books of all time. Excession is good, and Use of Weapons is scary! His contemporary stuff is OK, but not my cup of tea. It seems we have EXACTLY same taste in books! 'Player...' is my favorite book too. When Eve online came out I contacted him about and we chatted for a while about it and his books. Top Scots bloke infact. BOT Spear of Russ was another ship name from the first Wolf book. My suggestions are 'Kiss my Axe' , 'Haegr's smite' or 'Consider Haegr' The last one is a nod to Banks.
