World Serpents

Captain Mike

Recommended Posts

Cheers Captain. I'm thinking of jsut painting it the usual 'seal skin' leather (blue, green, black, black). I know its a kinda cheap and easy way to do it but I really like the effect.

Anyway, got the captain mostly done. Had quite a few mishaps due to adding too much water to my mix for the mithril silver, but it seems alright.

Front. Note the simple rope across his chest, testament to the hardship and generally dislike of fancy baubles the world serpents have.

Company markings. 6th company, like the tac squad. glowing plasma pistol.

Rear. Gotta love those old school back packs

Fist and take on chapter symbol. If I had some painting skill, it would be the serpent wrapped around Jormungandr.

Also, paint stripping! No pics, but long live fairy power spray!

EDIT: Pic re-done

No comment? S'pose its only been a couple of hours. Anyway, got some more painting done, and I now have a complete squad! Except back pack guy... I really gotta sort him out.

The two guys I completed today, sergeant and Fuzz. Note the odd furry thing on the base... thats what happens when you paint static grass.

Lascannoners.... with mould lines! ;)

http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr344/Captain_Mike_Parker/P1010053.jpg

And the army so far. Not much, but when the scouts are done it will be legal at least.

Enjoy, C&C welcome.

Hey, they're not bad at all mate! Don't get too disheartened if you don't get too many comments, I've seen threads with great models in go completely under the radar on this board! I like the sea-green colour you're using, it's really original. Bit confused by the chapter symbol though, can you show us a flat drawing of it because I don't really understand from looking at the minis what it's meant to be?

Keep it up!

Sorry for the shadow, its a picture of a picture :)

Anyway, undersprayed 3 of the scouts

http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr344/Captain_Mike_Parker/P1010059.jpg

The legs came out okay, but I think its a matter of the paint as to whether my filing worked.

And the miracle of fairy power spray

Currently got a jump pack swimminh around in the solution still, i want to see how long it takes for damage to occur. At the moment, more than 4 days.

Looking good brother! I like the scout conversions, but will there be a change in coloring to make them stand out more as scouts now that they have a more marine-feel?

Don't know if it's available in the UK but there is a product I use to clean my plastic that I've had great results with, I worte about it n the middle of the first page Linky

Took some searching to find my own thread! 5th page...

Anyway, three scouts done. I'm not to happy with how the legs went, they look too much like what they are: filed down bits of plastic

I drybrushed the faces rotting flesh to give them a kind of coprescent look. I took a close up, but my camera ate it.

agreeed those scouts look great, it would bother me if id built them that they are very power armoured but that just me being picky, they look fantastic

in future and idea for scouts, maybe use scout thighs so they look like armour segments rather than just not have armoured arms.

keep it up ;)

I like em! I think its a noble effort, the refurbishing of poor models waylaid by time. Plus its a cool color scheme you have goind on there. Any idea if this will become an army?

As it stands, you could use these guys as allies for an inquisition army, since the ally system has different requirements for units meaning a small marine force would still work out--perhaps the world serpents have ties to one of the lesser ordos, that would allow you to have some pretty cool fluff. Like the ordos sepultura who hunts undead (I think its sepultura anyway)

I spend so long complaining about lack of comments, and then miss three very helpful ones. I, truly am, a fool of a took.

Thanks for them, then. Glad that people would allow them as scouts. I've got two more finished and three more built, and a terminator captain (a tiny force and I already have two HQs  )

Five finished scouts

And the 'army' as it stands'. Fully legal (apart from the two wandering lascannoners)

Enjoy!

Very nice effect for such a simple scheme - looks very battleworn. I like the chapter symbol too; I'm trying to do my own at the mo, not sure I'm going to be as ambitious as you  I love that middle new scout pose too. Looking forward to seeing more of em recovered!

With the finished scouts, the trouser legs are a bit unclear, as you say. Perhaps lighten up the cloth a bit to a lighter brown, and fashion some pouches out of putt, or add some odds and sods from the bits box - as you've done on the middle one of the new ones.

Also, you've done the marine eyes in silver? They don't 'pop' that well on the photos (was kinda hard to tell if they had lenses done at first), but if it looks decent in the flesh then fair enough!

Definitely given me inspiration to try clean off and repatriate my old original drybrush orange beaky marines.

edit: and I forgot my question! I like the metal weapon effect; the scout blades especially - subtle. Did you use any metallics on that, or is it just grey highlights and wash? I'm intrigued!

I have to say Captain Mike that I absolutely love the colour scheme, its made even more brilliant by the utter simplicity of it. Seeing the results of a re-paint of old pre-painted models means I may be able to re-use all of my old models after all!

The metal effect is white, wash blue, wash green, wash black (often a second wash). I really like the effect, providing it goes well. If not it can be a bit patchy.

THanks for the advice on the trousers. I'm rather bad with GS ( mostly becauase I'm reluctant to get it out) but I may give it a try... More pouches could work though, with no GS work.

As to the beaky marines, I will say BE CAREFUL. Different solutions effect different plastic compounds. The dark grey stuff is really resilient, but the old (2000-2002 kind of light grey) starts to smooth off if it's left in too long. Goodness knows what may happen to the original, RT era plastics.

That was wierd, I was writng a reply and then suddenly I jumped to the Blood Angels section. Insert confused face here.

Anyway, as I was saying, I've got most of the infantry built (or all the infantry I'm actually going to use). Some odd layouts here and there, but it mostly works.

Got the WIPs blued, greened and partly blacked. Got to revise for my upcoming GCSEs, so expect progress to be slow and steady.

Also in the background you can see my WIP Inq. lord and mystic, and the side plate of a rhino in progress.

This bunch have actually ended up darker than normal. Regretable, but there's not much i can do bar strip and repaint.

Hi Mike,

Loving your sgt for the dev squad, love the colour scheme you have for your army, very well done indeed :D

Will you be adding any vehicles in future? Also what are those pack's the scout's are wearing?

Keep up the good work!

Another Mike? Awesome.

The scouts are a mix. The aerial ones are catachan vox casters (i have quite a few of them), one has a knife from the scout sprue, one has a Cadian flamer tank (to power his lightning claw or something), one has nothing (which I actually quite like), one has the SM large pouches, and the last one has a cut down SM back pack.

I'm planning on full mechanized (not too hard considering i only need three tanks). i'm either scratch building (which I've started but it's bloody difficult), or finding £60 somewhere. So far all I've found down the back of the sofa is an old lollipop and a rat's tail.

I would love to see you do a vindicator :P This has to be my favourite DIY chapter so keep up the good work

Great stuff you got there. I really like the colour-sheme. The scouts look great, and I think you should try your hand at a display board with matching terrain. That would be awesome!
