Chapter Master Draven
I started playing my space marines as a DIY chapter in which I made a relatively simple heraldic symbol to splash on my marine's shoulders. Now however, I'm converting my army to Dark Sons whose symbol is slightly more complicated. I've looked at the GW site, but there are no transfers for Dark Sons. Any suggestions or tricks for adding these little symbols cleanly or do I just need to get a magnifying glass and a steadier hand? ThirtySixNights
The key to free-handing is breaking symbols down into manageable shapes. I assume this is the symbol you are trying to create? http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/1/14/Dark_Sons_Badge.png This is how i would go about creating it. Step One: http://i45.tinypic.com/10qj3hs.gif Start with a simple circle in the centre. Step Two: http://i45.tinypic.com/4jvv41.gif Mark the points at which you want to main 4 spikes to have their vertices. Step Three: http://i50.tinypic.com/m0mk3.gif Proceed to create them. Step Four: http://i47.tinypic.com/2vt314y.gif Pinpoint the vertices of the remaining spikes to create the shape. Step Four: http://i47.tinypic.com/dyk5qw.gif Complete the shape by connecting the dots  I know its a little off, but its my first time drawing the shape, make a few practice runs on paper before you proceed to try it on a practice model. Good Luck! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190014-chapter-symbols/#findComment-2251490 Share on other sites
FlamingDeth
For my reeeeeally small painting, I got myself one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=400085631761 Just a little stand with adjustable alligator clips and magnifying glass. The clips hold the mini steady (probably by the base, don't want to stick those on your nice new paintjob), and the glass really does help the precision of the details. Should be available in any hardware store as a soldering stand, or maybe a hobby store as...something else. I use to have one of those but felt it was more of a hassle,I have very sharky hands but I found that putting my pinky on the model as I paint it helps a ton or even just brace my hands against my desk keeping em perfectly insane...Id also jusggest getting a insane detail brush from army painter for 4 dollars good quality and one smallest tips i seen Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190014-chapter-symbols/#findComment-2251751 Share on other sites
