Best choice for 250pts?

Recommended Posts

My 1500 list stands at this:

Grand master Valdor with Pcycannon and master crafted Weapon, Retinue of 7 GK Terminators with Incinerator

Grey Knight Squad, 8 Grey knights with justicar and 2 pcycannons

Grey Knight Squad, 8 Grey knights with Justicar and 2 Incinerators

GK Dreadnought with Plasma Cannon, Incinerator, Blessed and Extra armour

Land Raider

now I am thinking of expanding up to 1750, so what is the best option for that 250pts, I am thinking of either:

Land raider crusader

or

Inquisitor with Vindicare assasin and 1 squad of stormtroopers with special weapons, how many Storm troopers depends on points

or

Another Grey knight squad, 5 Gks, Justicar and pcycannon, with 50pts of wargeer on GM and Justicars, perhaps Bionics on the GM and master crafted weapons on the justicars.

or

An extra squad of 4 GK Terminators with 2 pcycannon

any and all advice welcome.

A second LR of a design of your choice.

2 LR are fine, not spamming and effective/useful.

I also like your current list. It's not hyper competitive, but workable yet fluffy in feel.

A 2nd expansion should be an Inquisitor with retinue and/or Assassin to add something 'extra' that's still fluffy.

A dirt-cheap Inquisitor + Eversor for instance would be quite good.

I would suggest a unit of witchunter seraphim:

A unit of 8 seraphim, with 2 hand flamers, a vet sister superior with an eviscerator (st6) and the book of luscius. Total of 230pts

This gives you a very fast unit that can go and take out snipping unit in cover which will be the bane of your GK.

A LRC, as suggested above would be great for your termies.

However, I can't help but feel that your retinue is quite large, and your grey knights have a lot of shinny things. You could save yourself a load of point by taking vanilla GK units.

If you want to add another unit of termies, I would reduce the retinue to 5 total (with incinerators) in a LR and another unit with psycannon as a mobile firebase.

A good firebase would also be: an Inq (elite or HQ), with 3 warriors (1MM, 1 plasma cannon, 1 heavy bolter) 2 sages and 1 mystic. At roughly 180-200pts depending on gear, it offer some reasonably good tank popping abilities.

If building a Inq firebase, I always try to work in to mystics. There is always something DSing these days, and sometimes you need another unit to light it up instead of the Inq/retinue

Mystics are pretty much a must-have for any DH firebase Inquisitor. As you said, for maximum usefulness it's a good idea to have another unit within range to take over shooting that's suited for different targets than the Inq's retinue. For example, have the Inquisitor's squad equipped with one or more multi-melta gun servitors to kill vehicles, then put a GK "Mini-purgation" squad or something else with lots of good dakka capability nearby to take over shooting at infantry targets.

Sry to be a bit of topic, but the discussion about the IQ firebase and letting some other unit shoot instead is cutting so close to my question.

Can a IQ choose a Dreadnought or other to shoot instead of him, or is it just infantry/units that can do this?

I may have played it wrong a few times, as I love to keep my Hellfire Dreadnought(s) close to the IQ squad, and have had it shoot instead sometimes (I think).

Can a IQ choose a Dreadnought or other to shoot instead of him, or is it just infantry/units that can do this?

Re-reading the entry in the codex: The inq may instead nominate one unit with a model within 12" of him to immediately take these free shots at the ennemy unit that has entered play.

Says nothing about infantry or what unit type the nominated unit should be

Therefore, by RAW, the dreadnought, or a land raider can take the shots.
