The use of foundation paint

Recommended Posts

I've got some Fenris grey foundation paint the other day and I'm wondering if there is really any point in it and would like to know what other users think.

At the moment I have started painting my models like this;

Sprayed mat black,

Add Fenris grey to the armour,

Add Shadow to the armour,

Then add details to the model.

I'm a huge fan of the foundation paints. They cover cleanly and effectively, even over black. You need to keep them wet, i.e. add a few drops of water here and there, but the results they give are awesome. I use Adeptus Battlegrey as my armor color, but fenris grey should work good too. I paint mine as follows:

Krylon Grey Primer spraypaint

wash entire model with Badab Black

Drybrush/Overbrush Adeptus Battlegrey over all armor

highlight with drybrush of Astronomican Grey

paint up the details as needed

Fenris Grey is great for use over black basecoat, it covers very well.

Shadow grey is VERY similar to Fenris Grey though, you may want to mix it with a lighter grey or you will be facing the question "hum, did I paint here with shadow grey already?" too often!!
