Problems with Codex 5th Ed.

we got uber-grit because we lost that rule that saved our necks before, true grit. (IIRC it doesn't exist any more) They had to find a way to increase our combat capabilities to truly reflect the way the wolves worked and so they gave us three weapons.

If you want treat it as if the Grey Hunters are simply cool enough to use a bolter to the same effect of a pistol.

I say give me true grit and two power weapons per pack before a pack leader was added but it isn't going to happen...

No DP for Bjorn? Is there any Independent Character that can take a dedicated transport? And on the plus side how many other dreadnoughts(walkers) can join other units?

Thunderpup,

I don't have my dex with me at the moment, but I am reasonably confident that Bjorn does not have Independent Character anywhere in his unit entry, and he therefore cannot join other units.

I, too, would have prefered he have access to a Drop Pod, like any other Dreadnought in 40K; however, I am still hopeful that we'll be able to have him hitch a ride in a Tantalus Lander, when/if we get access to those in about 2 months.

i am pretty sure we wont. too many people are looking to get things from other chapter's new goodness. and i am sorry if this seems rude but it is just down right silly. there is a reason for individual codices now, and not supplements.

and to the bjorn not having a drop pod.... unless you want to pod your whole force i don't see why it is a problem, i you drop spmething more or equally scary one the field you foe will have to choose what to shoot giving bjorn a chance to get where you want him.

That's why they cost 18 points in the last Codex. If they are only 15 points now, why do they need twice the attacks of a tactical Marine?

I didn't write the codex and it appears the person who did might have overlooked that fact. I believe that Grey Hunters at 18 points with the grenades included (instead of being 21 pts) would be a fair price to pay.

That was a problem, for a year we had to pay five points more per model to be as even as possible with marines, with true grit meaning only that we could do better in subsequent combat rounds. But did you hear us complain that Vanilla marines were too good? Your guys can fall back from combat if desired, the Wolves can't so that pointless combat will cost us lives.

It's one of the things that doesn't make sense to me but it's been in the fluff as long as I've collected them that CQB is their specialty and they exploit it.

And we all know Marines will be seeing a codex next year whilst we're left out for another decade. :)

Oops! You're right. Guess it's a good thing i don't field the old fart. :)

It isn't necessarily that I am looking to get things from other Chapter's new goodness (especially since I play Blood Angels as one of my 3 other armies that aren't Space Wolves anyway), it is simply that I expect that we will get access to the Tantalus through the Battle Missions book, and have seem some rumors to that effect. If we don't, it isn't a huge deal to me personally, as I can use them anyway in my other army. I fail to see why you think it would be "downright silly", however; it will either happen, or it won't.

Perhaps I should pitch this to you in another way, and maybe it will make more sense to you:

There is a rumor that the Tantalus Lander is going to be released as a new vehicle type to be made available to all Space Marines through the Battle Missions book. It is already known that Battle Missions will be providing new units for many/several Warhammer 40K armies; I believe that the press release for Battle Missions says exactly that. Because the Lander is going to be made available to all Space Marines in a book due to be released in March, then it should not come as a surprise that it has been included in a codex due for release in April (the Blood Angels codex). The Lander is not supposed to be a vehicle unique to the Blood Angels, and has been included in their codex only because it makes sense to do so. I would also expect the Lander to be included in any subsequent codices, such as a possible additional Space Marine codex that might be released in the fall, and all future Space Marine codices that are ever produced.

This is expressly not the same as my trying to get access to Blood Angels goodies, like their unique Furioso Dreadnoughts or Baal Predators. Those vehicles, and other units, like their Honor Guard are meant for the Blood Angels and their successors only, just like Thunderwolf Cavalry are for Space Wolves only. The Tantalus Lander, however, is not supposed to be one of those units/vehicles that are constrained to a single Chapter.

Does this now make any more sense to you?

Regards,

V

Bjorn doesn't need a Drop Pod, have you ever tried shooting at him? lol

We will get the Tantalus. They won't make something of that size in plastic which is not a core troop choice which they could sell for other Chapters and not do it. It would be financial suicide.
