Ladislao
Hello fellow brothers... in a month i will play an apo game with my wolves, a good chance to dust them off and buy the new sweet termy... It will be a imperium vs tyr battle, 3k point per player... in the beggining i was think to bring something like this: a pair of ww+ a land speeder as the apo formation, another speeder, a pack of long fangs with a razorback, a predator, 2 pack of grey hunters in ryno ( a plasma one and a flamer one), a land raider woth 14 bc plus a wolf priest, and, beacuse apo is the only place where a so cool unit can be played, another raider with 6 termy+logan+ragnar+a rune priest... a good list, able to manage tyr in hand to hand, and with some decent long rage fire, and self supporting unit But now i have the possibility to use a borrowed thunderhawk.... and i do not know what to do... i mean, a can enlarge the death star squad, fly above the table and raind death, an make a mighty charge last turn to take an objective... only, spend quit 2k point on a single unit it's a bit too much, i m afraid i will get bored all the game with only 1 k point spare... what would you do? ( ps, sorry for my bad english, it has been some time since i wrote something that long) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190093-to-thunderhawk-or-not-to-thunderhawk/ Share on other sites

Crimson Devil
I own a FW Thunderhawk and can say absolutely, don't do it. The THawk is way over-costed for what you get. Especially for 3000pt game. Forget about using it as a troop transport, it is far too vulnerable on the ground. Mine generally lives about two rounds, before ground fire takes it out. Less if the enemy has aircraft. I've played in around 20 apocalypse games with it and it has survived two. Once against Khrone and once against Bugs. If you decide to use it, don't pay for it. My group has adopted a "balance super heavies on both sides" approach, instead of GW's inane point values for them. We've played with most to gauge them pretty well now. The THawk comes in around a BaneBlade or Stompa in worth, provided you add the turbo-laser to it. So around 600 pts or so. I use the missiles more often than the bombs, but my friend likes the opposite on his. Lord Rao
As much as I like the TH model and fluff, fundamentally it adds nothing new to the game, especially not now that every SM army can take drop pods. Take it for kicks if you really want to - an APOC game is about the only place in which you can do so - but don't expect miracles from it. Using super heavies and their ilk really is a catch-22: you can only really field them in APOC games, but in games that large there are suddenly SOOOOO many things that can reliably take on and beat super heavies it just ain't funny. Other than that Crimson Devil seems to be the go-to guy here, he certainly seems to have more experience than I using them. Well, i've only ever seen it mentioned once, not even on here (i'm sure it has been talked about loads), i don't personally mind, i just thought i would mention it... :o Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190093-to-thunderhawk-or-not-to-thunderhawk/#findComment-2253831 Share on other sites
Durfast Spiritwolf
I've one and it rocks! It can deliver x30 models (that's x15 termies) and assault the same turn - drop pods cannot do that (accept the Lucius). The only problem is when you face someone with nothing that can touch it as it makes for a pretty dull game as you fly around removing at least one large unit or vehicle per turn...
