And do nothing to help you fight MCs or multi-wound T4 units.

Doesn't the initiative make a difference with a power fist however? What if your down to three marines and the sarge, and those PF attacks you've built the unit to rely on, never take place because you're wiped out at initiative 4?

What if, whatever. I'll take that risk. I practically never Combat Squad anyway, so it's 10 wounds the enemy has to get through in order to kill the Fist.

In this situation, you have to ask what whittled you down to 4 Marines, and if a power weapon will do much against whatever can wipe your four Marines at I4.

 

I know that when I'm down to low numbers in my assault squad, I switch to vehicle hunting and cleanup mode.

Frankly, given that half the killing power of a 10 man Assault Squad is in only 3 models anyway...
