Ravenguard WIP - going True Scale from the start...

I am finally getting back to building marines and thought I'd show you guys how some of my Raven Guard are progressing.

I will attempt to Proper/True Scale every marine in this army, with the exception of landspeeder crew. I will probably only add plasticard to the soles of my terminators, but who knows, I am not there yet.

At any rate, the only thing I have right now is a marine on a bike, probably my as yet to be named captain. I thought I'd snap a few pics before the primer goes on. The backpack and front faring are blu-tac'd on to show the final form, but I am going to paint them as separate pieces. I also need to add a meltabomb to the bike some where.

I was going to try to enter him in The Golden Bolter competition, but the recent cold snap here (a week of freezing in Houston, TX) has stomped my ability to primer.

Dude, you can prime in the cold. I live in canada (albeit the absolute southernmost part) and it's been -4F here for the last week. You can prime as long as you don't let the primer can get cold. Prep your models and the spraying surface, shake your can (inside) then just open up the front door and spray out from your doorstep. as long as you get the job done quick, you should have no problems. Believe me, if we couldn't prime in the cold, we'd never get anything done half the year. Same with UK players. If they couldn't prime in the rain, or in the cold, they'd NEVER get to prime anything.

Its not always bad weather here, yesterday was nice warm sunshine down this way :D

Great conversion, what are the backpack wings made from?

I like the actual sculpt of the hair, although I'm not really sure his hair-do suits him, IMO thats all :tu:

No worries, it is 68F today. I'll get some paint on him soon if my work schedule allows it.

The wings are cast from resin. I made the original piece from 3x1mm plasticard glued together. Once I'd cut, filed, and sanded it to my satisfaction, I used the Alumilite resin casting kit to make a mold. I will probably only be using them on characters and my sternguard.

As for the hair, I was originally going to use a helmeted marine, but I felt that the helmet was rather static. I chose the only head I could find that wasn't open-mouthed manically screaming or bionically altered. I wasn't too keen on the hair on the model, so I thought I'd give sculpting hair a shot. Having never sculpted hair, I scoured the 'net for tutorials and found a couple of good ones. Being a long-haired dude myself, I thought, 'why not give it a try?' :)

My wife says he kinda looks like Conan the Space Marine. Maybe I should throw a sword on there too.
