Some Blood Angels

Hi there, some of me fellow BA players will have seen these over in the BA forum but I thought I'd share them on here as well. What we have here is a departure from my usual method of painting BAs and using this new fangled Mechrite Red method, which involves overbrushing with Blood Red and such. Now they ain't gonna win any medals I know, but in terms of a decent TT looking force I think it's the way forward. It's much easier to clean up thatn working from a white undercoat too.

nexusnight @ cheers mate, the yellows (I don't have the skills to do proper nmm <_< ) are as follows ;

Basecoat : Bestial Brown

50/50 mix : Bestial Brown (BB) /Iyanden Darksun (ID)

25/75 mix : BB/ID

Straight ID

50/50 : ID/ Skull White (SW)

25/75 : ID/SW

Finally hit the very edges with Skull White.

And for the highlights yep, it is Blazing Orange but I find I have to hit it a few times to get the brightness I want other wise it looks a bit flat.

Hope that helps.

Wow thanks very much Capt Lysander, though there are many superior BA painters than me. :) I finished a Sergeant today, he's based in some respects, on the artwork by John Blanche of the BA fighting the Orks. While it lacks all the freehand flames and such I thought it would be kind of cool to have some of the minis hark back to the early days of 40k. Hence why the plasma guns and such are yellow.

Anyways enjoy. C&C appreciated as usual.

Cheers ikik, I finished the Rhino this evening and even put on some decals (I thought I'd start with the big stuff as it's easier).

It's basic but it'll do the job. Perhaps when the next pay cheque comes in I'll treat meself to some Forge World stuff for the next Rhino.

Those are gorgeous! The red is clean but still has the visceral feel the Angels SHOULD have. Just happened to be surfing threads for BA techniques since I'll be coming back to my alma mater with the new codex enroute, and yours is definitely under consideration. Thanks for posting your mix and stages as well! I'd also like to credit you for paying homage to the background of old while building a contemporary army. That art your talking about was one of the things that got me hyped to play 40k back in the day.

Sorry but I just noticed - you put the no3 and no2 on the rhino. Is that a possible mistake? :P

Either way, nice BA minis :P

Yes and no. I knew what I was doing but I knew it wasn't fluff accurate so I'm saying it's the second rhino attached to the company. :o

Most of my combat squad finished. I'll probably bulk it out to a full Tactical Squad, but for now they're good for just sitting on the home objective with a Rhino / Razorback.

And as soon as I can replace the blade on my knife or find a screwdriver, I will drill out the barrels. :D

Gotta love the kneeling legs. Nothing like a good painting standard you can actually maintain, am I right? What I mean by that is it's easy to paint a handful of sick looking figs every once in a while, but to paint a whole army to a great standard and keep it going is key in my opinion. Keep em coming!

Aye you're right there. It's all about keeping yourself motivated to do it I find. If I find myself slipping I tend to take a step back, do something else (Darksiders at the moment) and then come back to it with fresh eyes. While the bases aren't anything to write home about they're the first time I've done them properly. Normally it's just a bit of sand and job done, this time I've actually spent a bit of time with them and I think it helps the minis a lot more than just a bit of grit on the base.

I like them, they're pretty damn awesome. Although the Rhino looks like it's just been jet-washed :)

For our younger readers, this is the art that Brother Duncs is referring back to with his fisty Sarge

Thanks guys. I do like the style schemes and artwork they used to have. Guess I'm going through a nostalgia moment and paying homage to the things that got me into 40k in the first place.

Here's the completed squad.
