Hi guys new to the site and just felt like I wanted to find out some of the ideas that you all have about possible space wolf companies :)

To get the ball rolling... im currently planning on creating (eurgh painting...) a force of Space wolves in black power armour who were either exiled from the fang got lost in a warpstorm or they were sent as a special group on an eternal hunt for leman russ... aaaaaanyway they decided to paint their armour in black hence becoming the Black Wolves :) not sure which fluffy background to go with yet though... any thoughts...

and obviously post your own lost company ideas :P

Well, lost in a Warpstorm or doing a Great Hunt for Russ would be the most plausible options, since that happens from time to time. A whole company of Wolves being exiled from Fenris just sounds silly. Why did they decide to paint their armour black? Was it in order to camoflague themselves better at night, or was the Wolf Lord really emo? Why did they change their name? Did they want to break from the Space Wolves? Have they renounced their ties to Fenris, or were they just tired of being acredited the honours of a 10.000 year old chapter? Is it just a nickname their enemies has given them?

I'm not really fond of any re-naming and re-painting of the Space Wolves, but I think I see a way out if you are set on this. Say that your GC has been lost in the warp for a couple of thousand years. They have had countless of campaigns against the Black Legion, and have had to use the armour of fallen Chaos Space Marines for repairs. In the end, so much of their armour had been replaced that they just decided to go with black, not having time to repaint their stuff all the time. Their Wolf Lord can be called Asgeir Blackwolf or something similar, making it all right to be fielded as the Black Wolves, and at the same time being Space Wolves. Thats what I would do anyways :ermm:

Mmmm... I see your points... my Wolf Priest who leads them is already Grim Blackwolf :(, well i suppose the eternal hunt for leman russ appeals the most and then maybe they painted their armoud black to try and get below the imperial radar... thats not very wolfy though i spose (unless it counts as cunning) well im not sure about the chaos parts because i dont want them to be labeled as 13th company... as cool as they are i just prefer the main space wolves and do love the new plastics  I dont see the change of name as a real change to seperate form the Space Wolves... They are still the Space Wolves... they have just become the Black Wolves due to thier armour colour choice and role as galaxy hunters for Russ :cuss

My Wolves are called The Hounds of Orion and are a breakaway company who's lord (Hrothgar Beastslayer) had an argument with Erik Morkai that almost turned to an all out civil war between the two companies but ended with Hrothgar and his followers leaving to fight until dead in the Orion Cluster, which is currently consumed in war with the Eldar, Orks and Thousand sons armies. The planet they have secured as they're own on the rim of the Cluster, is NfilHeim, a Ball of ice and Frozen rivers that the hounds are quite at home in.

The Hounds have adopted Dark(kinda smoky) grey armour with Red (scab red) pauldrons with golden rimming.

Over the years of the campaign the Hounds have fewer and fewer members as the company dies off, though many other outcasts of the Space wolves have joined them over time. They fight with many grey hunters and few Vehicles as they have fallen into disrepair in the harsh Raids the Hounds conduct. Moving from system to system in the Orion cluster in a few "borrowed" Imperial Navy Battleships and what remaining Strike cruisers they have left.

Symbol is the Old Norse Rune for "O". (for Orion)

OOO I like the sound of the colour scheme and the fluff youve provided seems pretty credible... not sure about the "Hounds" though that just makes me think of dogs, and I do know that wolves and dogs are pretty related but have you considered the "Wolves of Orion" matter of opinion i imagine but they sound awesome :D i assume your regular gaming buddies use thousand sons, orks and eldar... yes? :)

I personally like the "Bah!! Logan is great wolf?? I bested him in combat and in maneouvers. Why is my name not on the those venerating the next Great Wolf? My deeds are more than worthy. Alaric! Muster the Battle Leaders, we are leaving the Fang immediatley. There are many areas in the vast Galaxy devoid of the Sagas of Russ and the Emperor. We will show them the true mettle of great warriors."

So basically in the spirit of Russ, in all their anti authoritarian stubbornness, they recant their oaths to the Great Wolf and fight to show the Emperor and Russ their prowes away from the Fang.

Yeah I agree, therefore giving reasons for the birth of the Black Wolves... but then the idea of a secret force of Wolves hunting the galaxy for Russ under the Imperial radar seems very space wolfy, pretty cunning, independant and anti-authoritarian

No they don't (i don,t have the new Dex) But in ed 2 and 3 a wolf lord swears loyalty to Russ and Russ alone not the current great wolf.

My wolves are called the Steel Fangs of Russ and they ware silver and white power armour, they are a lost/exile company who are still loyal to the space wolves chapter. They had a bit of a bust up with the inqusition and are now being hunted by a certain radical inquisitor (dont have a name for him yet lol). logan grimnar advised them to "make themselves scarce"

in fact heres a little story about how it happened

the steel fangs were first founded by wolf lord Kabal Silvermane.

their founding was one one of exile or corruption but rather a disagreement between Kabal the inquisition. the steel fangs are very fond of taking demon weapons from their foes and reforging them into powerful weapons that they themselves use, the canis helix is also very dominant and adds to the bestial fury of the great company, this drew the attention of the inqusition on more that one occasion. on one particular occasion Kabal was confronted by an inquisitor who started accusing Kabal and his company of being tainted and corrupted by the powers of chaos. this did not go down very well with with the wolf lord and he then proceeded to nut the inquisitor out and leave him on a some what unfriendly planet. Immediately after this however Kabal consulted the great wolf and upon recommendation he made himself scarce. he roamed the galaxy for many years trying to find a new place to call home and in the end settled on a planed very similar to Fenris, however the planet was home to a very large brood of Tyranids which had become seperated from their hive fleet. a great campaign began to clense the planet from the xenos threat, and it was during what was to be the final battle that Kabal sadly fell, he was stricken down by an ancient carnifex monstrosity. it was during this fight that a young Kojak (one of kabals wolf guard) witnessed his lords demise and with that jumped to his lords aid, cleaving the carnifex's head from its body. the young wolf guard held his lord in his arms and with Kabals last words he proclaimed Kojak his sucsessor, and with that he died. kojak stricken with grief let out a long and bestial howl one that would chill the very bones of the hardest and most experienced warrior, his eyes opened and revieled a yellow glow they then they fixed on the Tyranid swarm and a madness took him he pounced from his lords body and into the fray, slaying Tyranid creatures left right and center he was blood drunk and his body ached but still he continued the slaughter. many hundreds of xenos fell at his fury that day and when he came to his senses he was stood atop a gigantic pile of alien corpses caked in the dark blood of the fallen. his battle brothers stood frozen on awe at the sheer number of the dead, and from that day He gained the title of Kojak The Butcher

Very nice acid burn. and WLK

I've been playing 13th company for a few years now but with the release of our new codex my list just doesn't work as well and i want to try new toys. So i'm working on some fluff for a lost company.

Ice Wolves or Frost Wolves would sound appropriate for the color scheme i'm wanting to go with. I want a lighter blue to get a kind of frosty look to them. I'm using chaos models mixed with wolf models for a more barbaric look. I'm addicted to the spikey bits.

I've never used blood claws because they didn't have them in the 13th company but i've run some test games with them and i like them. Now quite awhile ago i read a blog about female marines and how its impossible or unfluffy but there was

talk about shield maidens and valkyries and such. I kinda like that idea so i did a little more research into viking mythology and culture. Anyway i decided that i wanna use females to represent bloodclaws for shieldmaidens, skyclaws for

valkyries, and swiftclaws to have cool looking chicks on bikes (who doesn't like chicks on bikes). I'm excited about the new blood angels coming out because they are rumoured to have winged jump packs and i wanted to have an angelic look

for the valkyries. Wolf priests and rune priests will also be represented with female models cause i read that all the priesthood in norse culture was made up of women. Everything else will be male models. I'm gonna wait to do any modeling

for the females cause of the rumor about the inquisition being combined into 1 dex and possibly being released late this year or early next. I would love to see some new plastic sisters.

Anyway as for fluff to support my drastic changes i just have some very rough ideas. Tzeentch would be the great mastermind behind it. He wants to make new space marines since i don't think chaos has any way of bolstering their numbers besides luring loyalists to the dark side. So Tzeentch leads Fabius Bile around to easy prey and luring loyalists to fall for traps and such. My lost company, they were out on a great hunt, ends up being stranded in the warp and losing a great number of space wolves to an ambush laid by Fabius. Fabius begins his research on all his prisoners mostly consisting of Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Grey Knights and Sisters. After many failed attempts he creates geneseed that can be used in males or females. Fabius creates a new chapters worth of marines. A false inquisitor leads this chapter around conquering "rebels and traitors" in the name of the Emperor. Eventually the chapter learns of the truth and kills the inquisitor and his allies and attempt to escape the warp on a planet-sized spacehulk that is a conglamerate of a fleet worth of ships completely frozen in a glacier-like asteroid.

So yeah thats what i'm leaning towards. Definately wouldn't mind any constructive criticisms or constuctive ideas.

Mine is a lost company that is not a lost company...

Basically, several companies were sent to an ork held planet.

The rumours were that there is a vessel matching the description of a ship that left with leman Russ.

The companies went to investigate.

They arrive to find almost no orks and set about searching the planet for traces of the rumoured vessel.

After X amount of time they find nothing and decide it’s time to go back to the fang.

While getting ready to leave, an Ork Waah comes out of warp returning to their planet after a mighty crusade (or whatever Orks call it)

The Wolves fight their way free of the planet and escape.

Unfortunately several groups of Wolves are stranded on the planet cut off and unable to make their escape they regroup and flee into the mountains.

The wolves who returned to the fang, gather a force to go back to the planet and search for their lost brothers.

Upon returning they are so outnumbered by the Ork horde they are not even able to get near enough to the planet to land.

The system is too overwhelmed with Orks.

They are forced to abandon their brothers, if they are even alive.

The remnants of the companies that survive gather in the mountains, where they fight and Hide from the orks for x centuries / years

After x period, the orks unit under a new leader and head into the warp on another great Waah

The Wolves still surviving on the planet use this as their chance to escape and return to the fang. (Not quite sure how they manage this yet but the details are not to important right now.)

But basically my Company is the remains of units from other great companies, marooned on and Ork held planet.

Listen close my Lord, for this tale is one of heroic deeds and mighty wars, and tyrants felled and traitors crushed. The beginning of this tale comes at the end of the Space Wolves Legion, when Lord Russ still walked among us, when heroes were made with every battle, when we were truly invincible. When the Sons of Russ prowled the stars and entire worlds were caught up in the fires of war, we were unstoppable. We slew our traitor brethen, the followers of the 8 Star, until the fled with the Eye of Terror from fear of the wrath of Russ and his Wolves.

As a Legion we were mighty, but with this terrible might came great fear from our allies. The vaunted Guilliman fixed the worlds of the Imperium while we purged our fell kin, and with his efforts came the true death of the Legions. While the Primarchs argued over its creation, Guilliman won over his brothers through words and force, all with his support, the once great Legions were broken down into smaller bands of warriors. Lord Russ worried greatly over this decision, for his greatest ally against Guilliman’s creation was the proud Lord Dorn, who bowed to Guilliman’s wishes and put his Legion to death.

Now Lord Guilliman was noble, strong and pure of heart, but the High Lords of the Imperium he had created were only human. Many of them were great men, but many of them were men of weakness and poor character. Lord Russ saw that his Sons were to broken down into smaller units, and he thought long and hard on the matter. He knew that the strength of his Wolves were in their unity and brotherhood, and to break them was to weaken them in a time where their strength was greatly needed. So Russ took the most trusted of his children and gave them this command:

“You are to take command of your brethen, and strike out into the blackness of space. You are to keep a keen eye on this new Imperium, every ready to defend it. You are to prowl amongst the stars and protect those the new Imperium would crush. You are bound by no oath of loyalty to this new order, but rather an oath to me and the All-Father. You are to champion the weak, to defy the tyrant no matter who he calls master, and be ever vigilant. Now go, my Wolves of the Darkness, and perform these tasks that I ask of you.”

With these final words our Lord created the Shadow Wolves and sent them out to the void. When a new Great Wolf is crowned, I am summoned to instruct him on the allies he may call upon in times of need. The Shadow Wolves remain ever loyal to the task set upon them by our Lord, and can be recalled to the Fang only in the times of greatest need. If we are to face a task too great for our chapter to defeat alone, a task so terrible that to reveal our true strength to the Imperium of Man, then we may call upon the strength of a Legion. Then the Legion of Russ will descend upon our foes, and woe to those foolish enough to doubt our might.

---Bjorn the Fell-Handed to the newly elected Great Wolf Logan Grimnar

Holy crap that was fantastic Wolf Lord Kieran (a hint of leigon of the damned me thinks there?) its kind of like my first idea for my lost company before i changed it, however your version is far better than mine, and backed up bith better information. Bravo

Legion of the Damned? i dont understand that connection.

what my Shadow Wolves are really about is my way of explaining how the Space Wolf Legion became a Chapter with only one known split (the ill fated Wolf Brothers...which i also have private theories about). Leman Russ was one of the better primarchs when it comes to his war record, but other than the Descrution of Prospero and engagement with the Alpha Legion, we escape the HH relatively unscathed...or we seem to. with GW never being consistent on the exactr numbers of a Legion, i figure that Russ was a very skilled commander, and no matter how terrible the HH and the Scouring was, wouldnt let the Wolves drop to nearly breaking 2.5k in strength.

so where did the bulk of the Space WOlf Legion go? Here is a chunk of them, and Russ and the All Father alone know the exact strength. it also lets me play against Imperial players (alot of guard in my area) without feeling bad fluff-wise.

WLK

the bit about "allies he may call upon in times of need" snd the "You are to take command of your brethen, and strike out into the blackness of space"

i was only saying they were a little bit like the leigion of the damned. it was just the image in my mind wen i was reading.

i loved this bit "You are champion to the weak, defy the tyrant no matter who he calls master, and be ever vigilant. Now go, my Wolves of the Darkness, and perform these tasks that I ask of you.”

eeeeee EPIC!!! ;)

"allies he may call upon in his time of need". i thought of this because in a personal example, my mother comes from a large family (15 kids). so when she needs something, she calls around and sees who has what. when we visit them, they all pool together resources and show us a good time (the one with mets connections gets us tickets to games, 1 uncle gets us discounts on electronics...so on). i figure the Wolves of Russ are atleast as closely tied to one another (if not more) despite distance between them, so when they are hard pressed they know they have avenues of aid outside the Imperium itself.

"You are to take command of your brethen, and strike out into the blackness of space". i am a large dork, and was itching to put a firefly reference in here somewhere, so i worked around had squeezed in a reference to the "black", but then punked out and made it more 40k appropiate.

the last quote i just made up, thinking of the old "knightly" vows and how to make them appropiate to the Wolves. i am actually really happy with this qupte (to toot my own horn), and hope it was something i actually made up, not subconciously ripped off of somebody.

and what i should have said my first post in reply, THANK YOU.

I decided to build my lost company around an event from the new codex. What if Svengar the Red's company in fact survived the attack on the dark planet they discovered? Returning to the Fang after many years looking for Russ, Svengar finds that he and his Blood Wolves spot on the Grand Annulus has been filled by another great company when they were thought to have been defeated. With the Great Wolf's blessing, they form a new "successor" chapter and their existence is only known to a select few at the Fang. Grimnar remains in contact with Svengar to get updates on the their location and the continued search for Leman Russ.

Man this is going to be long.

My company formily under the command of Wolf Lord Morgar, fought a campaign against a faction of nurgal worshiping chaos marines. At the final battle of Takoma ridge the nurgal marines launched a do or die final assault agianst Morgar's position. As the fighting grew more intense Morgar sought out the chaos lord. In a battle that would be sung till the wolf time the chaos lord, Mannaroth, struck Morgar down with a wicked plague sword. Seeing his master fall Howland Greywolf, a wolf guard of Morgars house, took his axe and cleaved Mannaroth's head from his shoulders. With the death of their lord the chaos forces were swiftly delt with, and Howland was haild as Morgars succeser. Upon reterning to the Fang Howland had a dream, he saw the face of his brother rotting and the slopes of the fang running black with deamon ichor and a giant, winged, pestulant being standing over the ruind body of Logan Grimnar. "You think I can be defeated so easily, little pup?" belowed the now demonic Mannaroth. With that Howland awoke, and at the cerimony of choosing his companies new symbol he swore an oath that he would hunt down and detroy Mannaroth. And with that he gatherd his company, saying that any who wanted to stay, could, took his ship and set course for the deamon worlds of the eye of terror. All without choosing a symbol for his company, hence each man painted his armour black and wears no symbol to show that they have walked the thirtineth stone before choosing a symbol.
