Ash Dragons - Works in Progress - Pic heavy!

FINALLY got the objective marker done.. it's been begging me for paint for months now, and has even been used as a tray for my paint while at the store ( the underside of the base ).

Went with Vandguard style paintjob, figured that with only robes on lower body as well as his loadout of CC weapons that would be the best fit for him.

Also got the vanguards p-fists up to a bit better paintjobb, now they actually have power in their fists :o

Cheers!

Thanks :D Yeah I wanted something that poped up a bit. The green stands out nice, but since it's not a contrast to the black it stands out, but doesn't pop. And I wanted to go with the "skull" type theme for them since they after all are the deadliest warriors in the chapter. So I'm really happy with how it turned out.

That one I don't have no, sadly as it's awesome with the extra leg armour.

Next up is possibly the last 10 shootie terminators. But on saturady ( tomorrow ) I'll be buying the plastic ven dread, so building that and my 1st comp Ironclad ( kitbash from ven dread bitz ). So I should have something more interesting to show you guys other than just more terminators soon! :)

Cheers!

Well my friend I'd be happy to have you 'round, the more the merrier. B)

THanks!

Haha I have used SW Wolf guard in a few games and thought about using DA more than once.

The reason for the termie spamm is because I'm working on re-painting my 1st comp ( new scheme and higher standard than before ). And I only ahve about 30 sternguard, 10 vanguards. So they got finished quite soon.

But I have about 97 terminators, so that is a bit longer project. I try to throw in some other things from time to time as just me spamming termies would get boring for everyone else ( and bored people leave no comments! ).

Cheers!

Ahh that sounds like a pretty good idea, I was wondering that for a while but the Wolf Guard idea crossed my mind aswell.

I'm currently trying to get my Tyranid army finished and then make a start on my Deathwing once I've moved out of my mums house.

The DA deathwing is a valid option, but I feel that you get more bang for your buck with the SW. You can vary your troop size ( not 5-man squads ONLY ). Better mix of different weapons ( combi-weapons etc ), better weapons ( 2 shot cyclones, 3+ SS, choose your re-roll lightningclaws etc ). And the HQs are IMHO stronger for the points they cost.

Now Deathwing have a bunch of possitives as well, they are all fearless, have the deathwing assault rule and the biggest for me is that they can have a command squad. Being able to have a termie com squad is frigging amazing just for the fluff value and the awesome conversions that suddenly becomes warranted.

Right now I just want my bruggy mits on that ven dread, been waiting for it for 2 weeks as it's been sold out at the store ( and they didn't get a shipment last week ).

Cheers!

I prefer the Deathwing over the Wolfwing, as they can use the Deathwing Assault and I because I've been playing them since 3rd Edition all those years ago. I have to agree though the Deathwing ''Command'' squad is a winner for me most games, mostly due to the Apothecary and Standard Bearer being available to us.

You would have probably been better off mail ordering it off the GW site rather than wait a fortnight for it mate.

Quick question aswell, whats your recipe for the armour on your Terminators?

Well I have don't like to order online if I can buy it at the store in general. Since my logic is that if I'm going to hang at the store and use their tables, then I should support them by spending my money there as well.

The armour ( black prime )

Green:

Knarloc green ( foundation ) - snot green (solid layer ). For highlights I do scorpion green, then scorp/skull white ( about 50/50 ).

Black is just chaos prime, and of course chaos black to clean up whenever I smudge the other colors, then a highlight on the edges with astronomican grey ( foundation ).

White I do a covering layer of scrotched brown, bestial brown, 50/50 bestial/bleached bone, bleached bone, 50/50 bleached bone/skull white, skull white.

I try to keep the highlights as simple as possible, since if I did them very detailed or fancy I'd frigging never get these chaps done :D

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Okey here we frigging go, DREADNOUGHTS!

The LGS had a Venerable dread with my name written on it ( literally! ) so I spent most of the day building that and later the Ironclad I've been saving for just this time.

I must say that the Ven dread is a MUST buy.. dear emperor so much sweet stuff on that sprue, it isn't even funny. Purity seals, different covers for body, weapons etc etc.. so much good stuff that I still have a bunch left after pimping both the Ven and the Ironclad!

Pure joy to convert with I must say. Untill I went to conver the Ironclad by re-possitioning it's leg. Put on a fresh blade on my exacto knife and promtly put in my thumb.. my 4-5 months cut-free streak ended here sadly my friends. But after some paper and tejp wraped around my thumb I was back at the cutting and green stuffing.

I am not totaly done with them, still need to do some clean-ups and detail work. But they are about 95% done so far.

Pictures!

Now the different ranged weapons will be left loose so that I can change them. I'll try to see if I can get the arm magnetized or removable as well, but I won't be aiming 100% for it.

The legs were interesting trying to move. A lot of very careful cutting later though it was a fairly easy operation.

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/Dreadnoughts022.jpg

I'm also working on getting the fingers of the other hand a bit longer, so that it isn't like the butler from scary movie "This is my strong hand...."

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/Dreadnoughts021-1.jpg

Now these two will be painted in 1st Company colors, meaning black with green and white details, that's why I wanted to add a lot of bling to the ironclad.

He will be getting a head later as well. That is why the engine on the back is not on yet, I need the hole in the back to be albe to possition the head as I want it later.

I will be painting the head and dread before putting it in.

Re-did the banner today for the termie command squad as well, much, much happier with this version!

Now people I would LOVE to get some feedback on these guys :P

Cheers!

Thanks guys! Happy to hear that it gives some inspiration, that's part of the reason why I post the pictures :D

That would be a cool idea for the NL 1st, fearless 5 man squads running wild on the country-side :tu:

I'm aiming to get most detailing stuff done tonight, but with the pouring rain I can't prime them yet. and as the call of the Imperium is going on I can't well paint them untill friday anyways.

Some more feedback would be great. Does the Ironclad look a bit too much? Any thoughts as to what to paint on the banner? Anything that should be added to the banner, or taken off? What could be a cood way to make special markings for the command squad?

Input is what makes a painter/converter evolve ;)

Cheers!

Thanks brother :P

I decided to sculpt a robe on the front of the ven dread, as I want it to be a sternguard pilot ( just as there is a vanguard in the Ironclad ).

Pretty happy with how it turned out actually.

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/DreadnoughtsRobe005.jpg

Right now thinking about doing a tabbard on the Ironclad to draw him in closer to the Vanguards ( since they all have white tabbards.

What you guys think? Either done cross the "chest" like a toga, or just hanging between his legs. Or am I better of just leaving it off?

Cheers!

Oh and just because I'm bored I bring you... Ultimate Dreadnought Fighting!

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/Dreadnoughtsfunstuff002.jpg

Thanks! :)

Been busy today and will be tomorrow as well, but hoping to get some more done after that.

I'll probably be doing a hood on the Ven as every sternguard has a hood. It'll be pretty lose and open though so that his special helmet is still visable.

C'mon people, someone else has to have something to say? Toss a poor sod a bone :P

Well here's the things that I've so far put up for the call of the Imperium. If I have time I'll add 2 more things ( probably 2 chaplains ) but we'll just have to see how it goes :P

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/CotI001.jpg

I put a heavy bolter on the base of the Ironclad, which will be painted as a chaos bolter ( red, with a black chaos star ) to add some color to the model as I plan on having him pretty black.

I'm warming up to the idea of doing a tabbard across his cheast, going from his left (the "small" arm) starting right under the eagles wing, then ending pretty much right at the end of the front. Now the question is if I want to stretch it back and attach it to his "groin" or let it hang straight down.. What do you guys think would look the best??

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/CotI008.jpg

The Ven I feel a bit unsure about if I want to slap a hood on him or not... He looks good without it, but I have ZERO sternguards without hoods.. He is a special case ( since he is a dread after all ) but I still feel that it will set him apart a bit too much... Thoughts??

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/CotI007.jpg

I now feel happy with the Terminator banner, and it's ready for getting primed. I've put so much "bling" on it that it feels worthy of being the 1st comp standard, but not so much that it looks crowded and OTT. Anyone that has a suggestion as to what to paint on it? Salamander succesors, the 1st Comp goes by the name of The Deathwyrms. Aiming more towards the 1st comp being the deadliest weapon the chapter master can summon ( next to exterminatus.. ) rather than the fire-theme of the sallys Firdrakes.

I was thinking something along the lines of a white skull against a black field with flames at the bottom, coming up to the jawbone in height. This will tie in with the black armour ( the background ) and the white face-masks of the helmets ( the skull ).

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/CotI003.jpg

Looking forward to hear what you guys think ;)

These guys are great, love the colors the green and black look good together, and the purple power weps give some good contrast. For the Ironclad I think letting the tabard hang down would look cool. For the ven dread I think he would look good with a hood. For the banner I think a dragon skull spitting green flames on a black background with purple trim would look pretty cool. Great looking army can't wait to see the dreads and banner finished.

Thanks my friend :(

I finaly gave in and used the very last of my greenstuff and did the robe/tabbard. And I'm pleased with how they turned out (esp the tabbard ).

Was going to post some pics, but saddly the battery in the camera died... but it's getting re-charged as we speak, and pics will follow right after.

Hmm.. An interesting idea, I'm just worried that it would look to busy with so much colors.. but since it's all colors represented on the model it might actually work out well. I'll deff keep that in mind come the 30th and I can start painting these guys. And thanks for letting me know what you think :D

Pics coming up soon!

Well the cam is charged ( enough at least ), so here comes some pics. I love it when you're considering doing something, be it paint, build or conversion and suddenly you just NEED to do it right away. Guess the muse was bored and decided to stop by

Here's the hood on the Ven, pretty simple job, that I'm OK with how it turned out.

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/CotIwip004.jpg

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/CotIwip006.jpg

The Ironclad with tabbard. Now this one I'm REALLY happy with how it turned out actually.

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/aaab.jpg

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/aaad.jpg

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Asrech/CotIwip010.jpg

Also got the other hand done to a standard that I feel comfortable with it. Might not be as big as the other, but at least the fingers have a similar possition and it's a little bigger than the standard nub-finger one.

The only problem now is that I'm all out of greenstuff ;) So the rest of the clean-ups on the Ironclad will have to wait.

So what do you think about the most recent turn of events my brothers? Better or worse with the hood/tabbard??

Cheers and good night!

Thanks mate

Ok felt that I really wanted to paint something today, but since it isn't the 30th yet I could attack my dreads and I didn't really feel like painting terminators.. again... ( well about 35-40ish done out of 100! )

So instead I primed 3 chaplains, a librerian ( tigrius ) and some squad banner bearers. One of the chaplains is the jump-pack one ( which is one of GWs best models ever!! ) and I've gotten some decent amout of work done. And I must say that I am very happy with how it's turning out so far. Left is still all metal ( not doing gold though... ) black highlights, scribbles on the parchment, red and the base.
