Vulkan conversion 1.2

Well I did a Vulkan before GW did theirs, so I didn't buy the official one, but decided to re-do my old one and pimp him out a little more. So he got a soak and stripp and then fell under the knife/saw.

I cut off the head ( took ages since it's solid form the ears and back >< ), cut the left arm off at the elbow to change it to a straight arm, with the old hand+weapon then put back on top.

The right arm is the normal bolter one, but with flames instead of a bolter. This as I feel that the terminator heavy flamer conversion just doesn't do the fluff justice. It's a cool conversion, but my feel for it isn't that it's a bulky flamer, but an ever burning gauntlet.

I cut off the details on the techmarine chest, but on some gs to smooth it out, and added chain for the cape.

The GS on the "Spear" is just a base for the flames I' going to sculpt when it dries, same with the three pieces on the bottom of the base. These three flames are acutally made on magnets, so they are removable, and will be used as wound markers. When the light goes out, so does Vulkan

Nice conversion there, are you gonna put a backpack on him or not?

Maybe you should smooth out the cape at his shoulders a bit cause it doesn't look natural because its a bit bulky up there.

Good Work, can't wait to see it painted.

Thanks mate. I wont be putting a back pack on, it can't fit anywhere as the cape is now, and I don't really want to cut into it, so his PA is simply that well fogred that it has a built in power supply.

I was aimingfor the look of the cape bulging up due to air filling it as he strides forward towards the enemy.

Right now I'm still waiting for the GS to set completl, then I'm doing the flames on the weapon and the wound markers.

After that it's prime time :o

i strongly suggest to consider re-doing the cape, but using a harder material as to carve and sand it when complete, it will help you create a much nicer crisper result

also consider grabbing some form of reference material or photos to help get more natural folds

i know it can be frustrating to redo things, but with sculpting its the only way to improve!

i like the concept but it looks a bit funny with both arms raised so high

Okey, here's finally an update! Sorry that it's taken so long but I've been putting most of my energy into my vow lately. But since I'm aiming to use Vulkan in a turney this saturday I've had to put it in a higher gear.

I've changed the arms around, so that the pose is a little bit less about-to-dive-off-the-cliff and more dynamic. The flames on the bases got a re'-do as well as how they're attached to the base. Now I have 3 magnets in the base instead of a single, so some more space for them.

The flames

The three flames are for those new made as wound-markers, so no more dice lying next to ths guy!

I will be keeping the bare head, I know that a lot of people hate helmet-less marines, but as you see his helmet got smashed ( it's on the base ) so he had to remove it. Overall in the army I have a lot of guys without their helmets, since I think it adds personality and variation, and I want to show that I go with a darker skin color, but without going chaos black.

The Mantle got a little work on the back, as well as some light rubbing for fngerprints, what's viseble rght now is so mainly since I cleaned him of pant, so all crevices (sp) are super defined. Once paint goes on I don't think they will show.

Cheers!

Ok, primed and starting to see some paint!

I just did the wound marker flames and the gauntlet flame, the rest will have to wait for a bit as the GS under his feet hasn't hardend yet ;)

The question I'm facing now though is what to do with his power weapon.

The rest of the army has purple "energy", meaning p-fists, p-weapons and plasma. It's all done in purple.

But to do a purple weapon with a red flame.... Not sure that'll look OK....

So as is I'm thnking about two different options, either a purple weapon and do a purple "energy flame" ( meaning simply, purple flames :P )

Or more of a fireglaive, doing the weapon itself in "fire" colors. The purple will really stand out, which can be good or bad, and the fire will "frame" the fig in flames as he will then have it on his left, right and bottom.

Overall he will get 1st Comp colors, meaning a green mantle and mainly black after that.

What do you guys think would look best?!
