krewl
Hello Frater, I started this topic to show you my models (The ones I finished anyways) although getting a nice shot on the digicam turns out to be quite hard. I will also use this to show some progress on my WIP models for which I pledged to be done near the end of march. As I am already started on the models most are basic black and already built, but some are still in clean metal or plastic. At least all magnetised arms are in. So for a start: My Belial model/conversion. A grey knight body, filed down dreadnough legplates as shoulderplates, limited edition sicarius back banner, a pair of Lightning claws and some more purity seals and offcourse some greenstuff, all on a nice base. (Slightly out of focus) Belial's command squad Assault cannon, Deathwing banner, Apothecary with Chainfist/Narteticum, Lightning claws and default Sarge & default powerfist guy. Like most of my termies, arms are magnetised so free for some re-arming and swapping of weapons. 2nd Termie squad with Heavy flamer Heavy flamer & fist, Default sarge, Default fist guy, default with chainfist and one with twin lightning claws. Again plastic models with swappable arms. Then the models for my pledge: The Characters: One counts as Logan Grimnar and one Counts as Runepriest/Njal The 10 termies 5 are plastic (The black ones) 5 are metal. Arms and weapons are lots of conversion work and blessing and sactifying of foul choas combiweapons.... (Read I am filing and using a dremel and all to get the spikes, pointed stars and choasyness off and into a smooth Imperial shape.) I Also remodelled the Cyclone missile launchers as I found them to static as they normally look. So with this my pledge starts... Isiah
Nice colour scheme Krewl and I like the plain crimson banners too. The GK body for Belial is a great way to get 'ornate' armour for him without too much effort ;). Good luck I Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190469-krewls-angels-of-vengeance-pictures/#findComment-2258416 Share on other sites
krewl
I always liked angels of vengeance as a colours cheme, but when I re-did my termies (My old painting was really terrible) I wanted a nod to the Deathwing Bone in the first company. So I came up with this, not really Angels of Vengeance, but I can always say it's a campaign mark :D I also like the look, it breaks up the black. Hard to se on the picks, but they do darken near the edges. It's surprisingly hard to let a picture show how they look in real life. I do squad markings with the terminator heads, I don't know if you can see well, but one squad is bone, one is copper metallic. I also have a squad metal termies in the workshop atm, so no pics yet, they have boltgun metal heads. The plates on the top/back of the armour I do in the same colour, so that I can easily separate the squads even in a huge CC. the 2 I am building for the pledge now will be boltgun (Adding to the other metal squad) and purple (the same I use in my overall colourschemes) as I try to keep the head colours based on the colours I already use so the system is clear, but not overly obvious when looking at the army, and it still feels coherent. I started on the pledge now, I decided the 5 storm shields arms would be first. So 3 are looking somewhat ok now (Needs detailing) 2 are still not done. krewl
The Storm shields are done, I'll get a picture up when I locate my camera. I started on the combi weapons, but as you might see these are chaos combi weapons. So apart from plenty of holywater, blessings and purity seals I needed to file away a lot of starts/spikes and deamonic faces. Amd as they are metal, that stuff just took me all afternoon and evening.. I'm done with that now, so they are ready for the black ondercoat, but boy are my fingers sore by now. Darn Chaos for having more combiweapons then we do. Tomevans
Loyalists are confused by choice, they like to pull one trigger and see stuff fly out of the end, not be confused by Fire selector switches and the like. krewl
So here are the promised pictures of the shields. Again not very much in focus (Must be a new thing in pictures, no autofocus... ) So here are the 5 storm shield arms I finished, part of the 10 guys for my Pledge. Also a WIP shot of the librarian I'm working on as one of the 2 characters. I focussed on this guy as I just felt like it and I seem to paint faster when I paint what I feel like a bit. This is WIP, so yeah most is not done yet. The lightning coming from his hands is not yet very lighting like, I don't know how this fix this yet. but the robe is coming along nicely. Isiah
Wow great so far. Shields look good with the black/gold combo. Libby looks excellent, the blue of his armour very vibrant – I love that psychic thingy coming out from his hand – a neat touch. Cheers I Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190469-krewls-angels-of-vengeance-pictures/#findComment-2271318 Share on other sites
krewl
So here I come again with another update: I have finished the librarian, that model is at the same time a beautiful work of art and a curse. Everytime I feel I'm almost done or I'll finish a bit very fast I find another 25 details I need to do on just that one bit. So this guy took me about 4 days in avaiable painting time. (Not 4 hole days offcourse.) Librarian Front: Painting looks very harsh on pictures I noticed, I feel the look is much smoother in real life looking at the model. I clipped the top banner thing of the book, I felt it did not fit there. Librarian Back As you can see I colour code my force weapons in Yelow base colour, red highlights of the swirly thingy's and then an orange wash. Makes them stand out a lot better then the blue I use for powerweapons. (And I include some blue in shoulderpads as part of the Librarian designation, I do not like the base blue armour thing GW does, feels like I'd have an Ultramarine running around. (Same goes for other specialists.) I show their allegiance/speciality in shoulderpads and/or a leg plate.) A shot of the next bits I finished prepping: Combiweapons arms: Boy where these chaos arms a pain to strip, and remove all chaos heads, mouths spikes and arrows.... I used a dremel for the larger bits, but in the end it came down to a normal file and lots and lots of it... Especially the shoulderpads where a pain to get smooth and default gain with the chaos-y faces on them. Should get me some conversion points in tourny's if I point them out. :) Extra bit: The 6th of March I'm joining an apocalypse game. so for this I built this Damocles command rhino to ensure better deep strikes on my Deathwing. The little fingers reaching for the shiny vehicle are my 11 month old son, who is already showing an interest in Warhammer, though I feel he's more the orky type right now, just smashing my humies... :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190469-krewls-angels-of-vengeance-pictures/#findComment-2275793 Share on other sites
Isiah
Damocles is a good idea to use with your Deathwing so best opf luck there. Libby looking great – the orange staff works really well and as you say is a nice contrast to the blue of the Libby. Personally I've always felt the termy libby looked a bit top-heavy but yours holds together well and I think it's because you've put him on a much wider base that counteracts the height nicely. Beef
ok my only gripe with an overall well painted army is the eyes, I just personally think they look less anime if they have a black outline? krewl
yes that termie Librarian looks topheavy, one of th reasons I clipped the top eagle thing off. He was tall enough as it is, as a terminator, then a bik book/shrine on that, and a eagebanner on that was just to much. (I was debating to leave the entire shrine off even, als I disliked the look, but now he looks very nice so hapy I kept it there. ) The thing is a monster to paint, with little details everywhere you look, and I could not allow myself to ignore them so he took longer then I expected. I started on the Damocles now, it's progressing nicely. @Beef, I'm not exactly getting what you mean on the eyes thing? Komodo
I like your Damocles. Do you have more pictures? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190469-krewls-angels-of-vengeance-pictures/#findComment-2277457 Share on other sites
krewl
As a matter of fact I do. I just worked on it a bit more and I made a picture of the finished side. Other side is stil ugly but wil be the same, still working on the top, so far that's just plain boltgun metal. I give you the Damocles: Though a fun addition to my army (for an apocalypse game next month) this one won't see much action. And sadly I just came up with it a while ago, so it's not part of my pledge even... :( I like the way it's starting to look so far though. I'll post a pic of the do-dads on top and where I got them later on when I painted it a bit more. krewl
Well, as I just completed my Ubuntu Linux exam 2 days ago I finally have painting time again, and I spent some on the Damocles again yesterday night. I'd figure I'll finish him this evening if nothing comes up. When it's done I'll offer the top shot with the bits description I promised. Just a quicky question, I did a pledge for 10 termies and 2 characters, would it still be ok if I painted some differend models, and kept the metal models away for a bit? Reason I asked is because I came into possession of 10 basic termies, (Sarge, one with HF and one chainfist and 2 basic fist guys per squad) and at the moment I just feel like painting these models, not the metal one's I've been working on so far. Would that still be considered fullfilling your pledge of would it not? It's still 2 characters and 10 termies, just different weapon arms. SO here is my edit: As promised: One Damocles: On the top are: 1 Stormbolter from the Rhino addons sprue, 2 small satelite dish things from the same sprue. The Imperial Eagle dish is from an Apocalypse commandsprue, and the bigger satalite dish is from one of my whirlwind sprues. Then the last thing with the blue sensor on it (Needs something still I know) is an upside down sensor thing from a landspeeder with Master of the Ravenwing Speeder Shield of Night attached. Put it on a rhino and voila, one damocles command rhino ! krewl
Just a quicky question, I did a pledge for 10 termies and 2 characters, would it still be ok if I painted some differend models, and kept the metal models away for a bit? Anyone know an answer to this? I'm just going to pretend this is the case and finish 2 squads before March the 31st and the last character. And again with the WIP updates. I started work on 3 squads at the same time, one of the squads I was prepping last time, and the 2 new squads I got my hands on. For now they are named Red, Green and White, for those colours identify them in squad markings. 2 Squads are classic Deathwing config, A sarge with powerweapon/Stormbolter, one assault cannon and one chainfist. 1 Squad is the magnetised squad I posted before, they have no arms yet, but I did finish the 5 Storm shields and now an assault cannon. I'll probable paint 3 combi melta's with them, don't know about the last one yet. Below is the fist shot of work started on my other pledged character, a counts as Logan Grimnar. He's badly out of focus, but the paintwork I do when I start is sloppy anyway, so there's not a lot to critique on yet. I don't know if any other layers here paint like this. I start in big area's paint them as good as I can, but without being very carefull, so it's usually quite sloppy, then I work my way up on the details and touch ups. I think so far I've only seen ODM use the same broad technique, most people are focussed and tight all the way through the painting proces. For those interested in the bits: Terminator Librarian body (old one, not the current model I just finished before.) A Grey Knight Stormbolter arm, (Under the shoulderpad with the crux of the librarian body.) and a grey knight force halbard arm. Then some DA bit with a winged angel to top him off and make him a bit higher (And but on an impressive base, which characters deserve offcourse.) krewl
Replying to myself again, I'm talking to myself here, must be a sign of mental instability... And then again, I paint toy soldiers, and worse, I put myself on a deadline to finish them as well, so I probable wasn't as sane as I thought anyways.. I finished 5 terminator body's yesterday, so I put the Storm shields on for a picture: And here they are: Face highlights look very hard now, that's the flash of the picture, also makes the bases look very white but they are more with some darker area's. Brother Hadafix
Awesome work, and almost has me wanting to finish of my own chaps (will get them done soon ;)) Just a quicky question, I did a pledge for 10 termies and 2 characters, would it still be ok if I painted some differend models, and kept the metal models away for a bit? I would say as long as the numbers are done, the pledge is done. Would be a shame though after all the work you put in to filing and everything if they were left not done for to long though. krewl
Thanx Brother Hadafix, I'd gues the metal termies will be painted this half year anyway, so they will not go to waste. Just not in time for the pledge. Wel, here is another update, I've been busy today: - An update on the work on Counts As Logan Grimnar. Working my way up from the base, legs are done, started on an arm by now. My Purple squad is done. (I now have squad Metal, Purple, Bone and Copper done. ONce painting is finished I'll work up some propper Judeo/angelic names for them. ) Squad Purple Front: Squad Purple side shot: Somehow those hazard stripes just worn't come out the way I like them. Maybe I'll give them a once over when the deadlines are done and I made the pledge. And one preview of an almost finshed Squad green member: (His Battle brother hiding in the back behind him... ) Hope you like it, I'm trying my best to get all the 15 termies and the 2 characters done for the 6th of march for an apocalypse battle... Isiah
I'm liking the little red "escape hatches" "service hatches" on the tops of the terminators -- it's visually quite effective picking those out in another colour. krewl
They, and the heads, are my easy to spot squad markings. Much easier to find on a table then a number on a shoulderpad, keeps it clear. So they are easy to group from the front and from the top. Only 4 days to paint the character and 9 more termies, should be a challenge to say the least. Especially as I found out they are harder to paint then the ones I make myself. I can't reach around many corners because they are pre-assembled and the basecoat is not covering them very well, so many touch ups are needed. Malus the Destroyer
Nice! Ya, I use the top hatch coloring for squad marking as well. Glad to see someone with actual skill using the same idea! krewl
Soooooo, just in time for the deadline... As posted before there are some changes, I did not paint the metal ones I stil have prepped on the table, but another bunch of plastics I bought from someone. Still 2 characters and 10 termies so as far as I feel the pledge is completed. I present: My Counts as Logan model, I'm very happy about the paint job on this guy, just a little sad he is so much smaller then the newer librarian model.... But appart from that he looks cool: My Green squad: Happy with the way the heads turned out, not so much on the "Bone"legs and shoulders, I'll probable redo those in the future One more of the Purple squad no with 4 storm shields, one CML on the arms and 3 combi melta's and one combi flamer. (I know I know, I just could not settle on the arms, but thats what magnets are for. :D ) (I also dis another shield and an assault cannon, but they'll come in handy someday..) And for completeness sake: One picture of my completed pledge, and this thread covers the Work In progress updates quite well I'd say. krewl
Don't know yet actually, I caved in and bought another box of assault termies for the shoulderpads and some more claws and shields, and I'm making some more combiplasma and c-melta's. I also still have the Space Hulk termies to paint, so termies a plenty.. (And did I mention the 5 metal stripped termies I have magnetised? (termie obsessed I know..)) I also hope to get the Fortress of redemption and bastion kit for my birthday tomorrow, so some terrain to paint will also be in the works. But mostly I'm working on making a working list with termies and the wolf guard codex. Just polaying with them has so far shown me the power is in the combi weapons, so I'll need lots more. (I have 4 plasma, 4 melta and 4 flamer combies so far, just not all painted yet.) I'll also need some more manouvrability, so I might get 3 drop pods somewhere in the future aswell. In short, I haven't got a clue what I'll do exactly, but it will be centered arround my termies al right. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190469-krewls-angels-of-vengeance-pictures/#findComment-2340970 Share on other sites
