Taeken
Question(s) obout Air Brush Setups: #1 Is the GW Spray Gun worth getting? I won't be doing anything fancy, just the main coats IE basecoating, overcoat etc... #2 Assuming I don't go with the cheaper GW Spray Gun, what set ups are out there for a basic/beginner? I know nothing about airbrush makes n models so I don't want to accidentally buy crap. I also don't mind spending $ on a good product but see no need to drop $300-$400 + on an airbrush. I just won't use it enough to make it worth the price. Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190478-air-brushes/ Share on other sites
rodf
you can buy a better can air spray gun for less. there are package deal with a generic spray gun plus compressor for about 100USD , but if you want a good one with a compressor , think 100 for the gun double action with a moisture trap in the hose , and 100 more for a decent compressor with auto shutoff Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190478-air-brushes/#findComment-2257877 Share on other sites
Thunderpup
I had horrible luck with the GW spraygun. It constantly clogged on me. The pressure wasn't even. And as soon as the cans got cold it stopped working all together. If your going to do more than one model at a time have many cans ready to switch out. Even a vehicle will need at least two. I have an airgun & compressor now. It wasn't cheap but I really like using it. So much less hassle. Besides if you use a GW gun long enough you will have bought enough cans to pay for the A&C. Taeken
So I am getting the feeling GW gun is not good. Ok kinda figured that but had to ask. Any brand names I can research? Thanks for the replies. These kind of things really help me out when planning purchases and projects. Quillen
Their is a company called hobby lobby here and they have 4 different airguns. I bought a 24 dollar one and a compressor from Costco (about 89 bucks) and have painted 100 Marines, 30 terminators, 36 bikers, rhinos 3 Preditors 2 Land raiders and a Battle Tech madCat as a proxy for a reaver titan. Before this Airgun I had a testors one. Cost me about 30 bucks and came with a can of propellent. I used it to paint my other massive army. Which is also as big as my new Wolf Models. It's worth it if your wanting to do big tanks and war machines. The paint goes on smooth and thin and you keep detail. If your doing a Camoe pattern it looks freaking amazing. Everyone that gets the GW gun has bitched about it. I know my friends borrow my tools when they can. Something about the flamer look like gun breaking easy. I will ask my friend when I see him again. Just look around and you will find one you like, and they are affordable. It's the compressor that can cost you. But if you look around for that too, you can make a big score. I did. I got a Kawasaki 5 gal with an auto matic shut off. It works awesome. commander alexander
I myself bought a cheap airbrush from harbor freight, it worked ok for a while, but it has stopped working, and the pot never stayed on as it stuck in the bottom. I would also be interested in any brand or model recommendations on a good airbrush. ===Edit== I just watched the video, and it answered those questions. Airbrushes Also Les Bursley from Awesomepaintjob does some helpful videos.
