Monstrous Creature Hunting

I can't believe nobody's mentioned using Typhoons yet. Being able to zip around at 12" and still fire off 2 Kraks per turn is a god-send when you need to hunt down Monstrous Creatures. I combo 2 Typhoons with a pair of Multi-melta/Heavy Flamer Tornadoes, and Arjac Rockfist at 1500 to meet all my monster-hunting needs. That and with 4 packs of Melta-toting Grey Hunter packs, I'm not too concerned.

It just seems in general Space wolves have a lot really solid options for MC killing. The key is that you don't go to far down that path and leave yourself exposed to horders, etc (which is why Typhoons with flamers/Multi-melta are soo good, they give you both, as does Arjac - he just owns, period, although the inability to give stubborn has made me remove him from my list). All the options discussed are viable options, imo. As I don't use any tanks, I will be mainly relying on runepriests, TWC, longfangs, lonewolves, my lord, my melta'd GH, and my multi-melta assault bike. Being that is almost my whole list, I don't think I got problems =). Although I may drop the bikes for tornadoes, dunno yet.

I'd go 1-2 Typhoons, a Dread w/ TLLC and 1-2 Lazorbacks. Then you're set. No need to worry about the big stuff, since they cant take objectives and die rather quick. MLs and LCs are eyour friend, tough, because of AP 3-2. And this set up works well against mech armies also, and you still have a lot of points for GHs and stuff. Thats what I run, and I've never had a problem with MCs.
===Edit=== Oops I forgot, Lone Wolves also pretty much have saga of the beast-slayer, eternal warrior and feel no pain, all of that in a suit of TDA with a thunder hammer storm shield, and wolves for extra wounds could be a good tar-pit for the big(ger/ish) bugs.

I run 2 this way (one has 2 wolves, the other has 1), and I must say for around 100pts a piece, they are sheer beasts when it comes to MC hunting.

While Skyclaws have a subpar weapon skill, especially when facing a MC, a full pack of Skyclaws led by a Wolf Priest with Beastslayer Saga might prove to be surprisingly effective. Or better yet a Grey Hunter/Blood Claw pack led by Ulrik. One pack led by Arjac and another by Ulrik and you have 2 close combat anti-MC packs that could, potentially, devastate most MCs in the game. And that still isn't including a Wolf Lord you could build.

Just thinking of the possibilities with Ulrik I am now considering a counts-as Ulrik (Since my GC is based on an era a few hundred years prior to the current) because for 180 points he really brings a lot to the table plus he has very good stats as a close combat unit. Not to mention the conversion possibilities to represent one of the most feared and oldest Space Marines in the imperium. How many other units in the game require a leadership test just to allocate wounds?

Good point with Ulrik ;) . And adding a wolf priest to a skyclaw unit, giving them preferred enemy against MC's could be effective. Something that really irks me though in the codex, is the inability to give rune priests or wolf priests thunder wolf mounts, that really really irks me :angry:

I played a game against the Nids, managed to get only a single wound on Mawloc from a full squad of GH w/MG and rapid fire. But Logan came to rescue and slayed the beastie in a single round of combat before his WG had a chance to smack it :P It was awesome!

Plus, for all the hordes I had a Rune priest fire out MH on a squads of Termagaunts, managed to kill 17 out of 30 just from their movement alone! Crazy stuff... Plus the fact they have to run through difficult terrain denied a charge as well :o

Just got the nid codex, and oh boy ;)

There is soo much stuff that I cant write all of it or think of all of it in one post, but I will add stuff and answer any questions you have.

For now, this is whats on the top of my head;

- Saga of the Beast-Slayer is you're friend (lots of beasts)

- Saga of the Bear is youre friend (lots of bone swords and other insta-kill stuff)

- Wouldn't be surprised by Mawloc shenanigans against you're longfangs.
