Wolf Lord Karulfr
How do you paint the left shoulder pads of your Space Wolves? Do you paint the Great Company symbols freehand, use transfers, or something else? Which Great Company symbol do you use (transfers or freehand). I'm about to finish my first squad of Grey Hunters and I'm running into problems. I tried using transfers and couldn't get them to lie flat. I've tried freehanding, but the only ones I can get to look good at that size are Ragnar Blackmane's and Egil Iron Wolf's, neither of which I'm interested in doing. My plan is to leave them blank for now and continue to practice one of the other ones. I'd ideally like to be able to do the Great Wolf's company. I want to hear what solutions other Wolf Lords have found? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190536-great-company-shoulder-markings/ Share on other sites
Hfran Morkai
My Great Company doesn't have a marking, I've made up fluff for it because it was a field promotion (he took over as his lord lay dying) and he just refused to choose a symbol to represent the company, joking about mimicking the 13th stone to others. Night Runner
I use decals exclusively with gaming figures and I have nearly always used the Night Runner symbol (go figure). All you need is a few applications of decal solution and you are set to go. I also like giving the decal a light painting to help them stand out, reduce glossiness and seal better. For freehanding check out this excellent tutorial: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...;hl=freehanding Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190536-great-company-shoulder-markings/#findComment-2258669 Share on other sites
wolf363839
I'm not skilled with transfers either. On the left arm of this dreadnought is my great company marking. I freehand it. After I painted it about a half dozen times I got pretty quick with it. http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae39/phil363839/DSCF1632.jpg?t=1264272442 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190536-great-company-shoulder-markings/#findComment-2258679 Share on other sites
Wolf Lord Karulfr
Wow, that tutorial looks great. I'll have to give it a shot. That should speed up my progress considerably. I saw a lot of people in various places recommending decal solution but neither of the hobby shops in Prague carry it. I'll post pictures when I'm done with the squad. (Well, half a squad really.) Night Runner
Freehanding is by far more prestigious in my opinion, and if you learn to do it properly, then your models should be something to admire. So post them when ready. If you would like to experiment with decals and decal solution, then you can order some online from the UK. The URL is below. You can also go to 'Micro Sol' site for tutorials on its use. http://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/microsc...ml-p-12009.html And welcome to the Fang! :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190536-great-company-shoulder-markings/#findComment-2258700 Share on other sites
Wolf Lord Karulfr
With the help of the tutorial, the freehanding shouldn't be a problem. I just need my first test swatch and it came out well. My brush control is really good, it's proportions that trip me up. Like I said, I'll post photos, hopefully within a week. Durfast Spiritwolf
Mine are freehand - the idea being that each wolfbrother paints it on his pauldron himself. Hence the slight variation is look between each one. That said, I can only manage a few at a time if I'm to avoid them becoming slopier and slopier. wolf363839
Spikyjames, Those look fantastic. By the way, how do you "line in" your models to get the dark recessed areas around armor plates??? spikyjames
Cheers I paint 50/50 scorched brown/shadow grey into the recess, fairly simple really.
