Right then - here we go with the LPC!

I have resolved to build and paint a converted command squad and captain for the Imperial Fists Vth Company. I shall have the following:

Captain with Relic Blade and Storm Shield

Banner Bearer with Thunder Hammer

Chapter Champion with Combat Shield and Power Sword

Apothecary

Veteran with Storm Shield and Power Axe

Veteran with Storm Bolter and Chainsword

Here we go so far:

Storm Shield and Power Weapon Vet:

I have used Dark Angels Robes mixed with a few Black Templar bits to set the squad apart. The Captain is the Vanguard model with relic blade, with a new torso and a mix of parts for the back pack. Stay tuned for more info as I complete more!!

Update on the Captain - I spent some time at my local GW today having a bit of a go...

The rope around the backpack is greenstuff, and the storm shield is going to be the subject of some freehand heraldry soon...

It's a mix of about 2:1 Golden Yellow/Iyanden Dark Sun - there are another two highlight stages to go through, but I'll wait for the arms to be ready to go before I do these as I have to mix a bit of white in, and want them to be uniform...

I'm always envious of people who can paint yellow... ^^

I really like the fact that this is not some kind of bright shining yellow, but a more earthy and dampened ochre... this is the way I imagined Imperial Fists would look like.

great minis, I'd love to see more

(btw, first post, hello there <_<)

Why thank you - although I did manage to drop him into my painting water the other day somehow - the missus was not amused to come up stairs and find me with her hair drier blasting away to try an stop any lasting mis-colour!!

@ Terminatorinhell: The legs are from the Vanguard veteran with relic blade, with his upper torso hacked off and replaced...expect to see the relic blade parts attached soon!

I'm tempted to enter this guy into the Golden Bolter if I can get him finished in time...hmm a quandry...

Right - a non picture update (not even sure there is much point, but I have itchy typing fingers!).

The Apothecary, Company Champion and Standard Bearer are built and awaiting undercoat.

The Captain is based and ready to have the arms done. Normally I would base him last but due to my travel schedule, I won't be home until next Tuesday, so will have to double time it in order to get it into the Golden Bolter this Sunday!

Thank you for the compliments...

The yellow is quite simple, and I will do a tutorial before too long, when I have a blank canvas to work with, so to speak...

For now however:

Iyanden Darksun over a white primer

Gryphonne Sepia wash into the recesses

Re-touch any areas that the Sepia spilled onto with Iyanden Darksun

Layer on (a thin watered down layer) of 2:1 Golden Yellow : Iyanden Darksun

Add another layer of this if you need the coverage

Mix in some white with the previous colour and use as a line highlight

Add another bit of white into the previous mix for hte extreme highlights

That's about it...

I keep a pot of the 2:1 mix handy, as I can get good consistency. When painting a squad, I leave the highlights for all models until last so that I can get some uniform highlighting. I've gone through several possible variants on the above technique including using Tausept Ochre and Ogryn Flesh was, and this is the one I like the best.

Thanks again for your comments!

Right then - The Captain is finished...

I'm not 100% happy with him - I am going to enter him into the Golden Bolter, although the fact I left is so late does show in the painting...

I had an accident with the freehand on the shield as well, and this led to a re-thin and a rush job, ah well never mind - he will look great on the tabletop if nothing else!
