sar mikael Posted July 2, 2010 Share Posted July 2, 2010 that chem plant looks like a nice piece of terrain, what are and where did you get the pipe bits from? are they copper pipes for plumbing? if i was you id either paint them up copper/bronze/red like you said with some nasty style weathering /leak marks or if you want to keep it more in keeping with todays chem plants, varying shades of grey ( but thats boring, i just google imaged chem plant). i remember reading this wip ages ago and forgot to say how awesome your ravenwing are, those speeders kick ass. your paint scheme is real nice and a good use of templar bodies. what happened to the tornadoes beneath your speeders though? were they only temporary until your ruined buildings turned up? greendestiny Posted July 3, 2010 Author Share Posted July 3, 2010 The pipes are plaster mixed with dental stone. The company that I got the molds from is Hirst Art. Linkage: http://www.hirstarts.com/ Â A friend of mine purchased several of their molds to make a steam punk style building and asked if I wanted to borrow them. After working with him one time on them I was hooked! They are so fun. It is also where I got the rock wall molds and how I learned how to make my own molds. Â The tornados were standing in until I built bases. But so many people liked them that I may use one for the lead ship or something. They were kind of price restrictive to purchase though so I probably wont use all of them. I got them from a company that was going out of business and at 1/2 price they were still $10 USA money each. Â Thanks for the Raven Wing and speeder compliments, they were really fun to make especially after I discovered the beauty of magnets. The troops are fun to do basic kit bashing but the machines with visible troops are a blast!! They just beg for conversion and personalization. I liked how the ravenwing troop/bikes contrasted as well. I am not as happy with the terminators that I built and may end up stripping them or at least changing the bases to contrast the models. I thought the metal floor would look way better than it does but in the pictures you can't see the detail of the little metal floor bump things so it just looks like crap. There are sooo many DIY chapters out there that it is pretty hared to do anything to make one your own if you aren't actually a sculpter like some of the guys on here. I went with a lighter desert camo than the dark flat brown that I used on the bikes and Termis I built quite a few custom pieces to use on subsequent tanks but haven't done any painting on them yet. I really wanted an all plasma unit so I built a plasma pred that would count as the all laser pred. I know a unit can't have all plasma guns so they would just count as standard tactical squad with bolters but look different.  I used a lot of pieces off of the various Leman Russ builds. I like their sponsons better than the space marine variants. (I only get to play about 1 timer every 6 months or so) How would a devistator unit with 4 Plasma cannons fair? And what would you do with them in a game? I already built them and am almost done with painting them as part of my whole plasma unit thing. Having a little trouble with lighting. The unit goes with my fluff really well. It is a standard devistator unit with 4 plasma cannons 5 marines with plasma guns (counts as regular bolters) I haven't built the unit leader but other than that it is done. Oh and I didn't have enough of the right backpack so I was one short until I could pick up another.
