craigory45
So I am looking to buy a Warhammer 40k rulebook. But the hardcover is worth 50 bucks. I know you can get a condensed paperback one for cheap. But if go that route will I be missing out on anything important gaming wise in the hardcover one? Sarapham
No, just some fluff... all the rules are still in it so its completely usable. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190719-rulebook-question/#findComment-2261163 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
You miss out on diagrams.... they have examples of how alot of the rules work in pictures in the big book, as well as about 150 pages of description for the setting.... So if you do better with diagrams, get the big book,... if you have a good group of people around and do well by reading or just playing, get the small book unless you want the fluff. Prophecy
You can't. Check amazon and ebay, but it's pretty rare. Nonetheless, if you're just getting into or back-into the hobby, the "condensed" book doesn't really skip anything and you can pick it up for 10 bucks or less on ebay. It's a great buy (i have it and the big book, just because the little one is easier to carry around with my army). You won't regret buying it for an instant. Grey Mage
You can always get the big on later if you so choose, if money is an issue *and I find it often is*. If you can get the big one though, Id do it without a second thought. craigory45
so the small one has absolutely every rule i will need to know? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190719-rulebook-question/#findComment-2261282 Share on other sites
Ravenger
yes, they wouldnt cut the rules short for a pocket version of the same book. its the same set of rules, you just dont get the story(similar to every edt of 40k) the artwork, the diagrams on the non confusing rules. its all the same Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190719-rulebook-question/#findComment-2261432 Share on other sites
Max_Dammit
even the page numbers of rules are the same, so if there's talk of page 73, it will be the same in the big and the small book Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190719-rulebook-question/#findComment-2261587 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
Yeah, thats why they took out most of the diagrams- to make everything fit on the same page without being teeny-tiny. They did a really good job of it actually. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190719-rulebook-question/#findComment-2261621 Share on other sites
Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
hmmm...i kinda want the fluff.where can you get the hardcover for cheap? this might sound like a joke, but try looking at used bookstores...i found a copy (hardback) of the 5th ed book for $10 at used bookstore in Jax, Fl. people may have left the hobby, sold off their stuff and i was just so lucky enough to find a great deal.
