Ragnar and Morkai's Company (pics)

I couldn't decide on a single Great company, so Im going to have a "split" force with warriors from two great companies: Ragnar's and Morkai's.

all of these are still WIP (some less than others), as i have to paint the bases and paint some ardcoat gloss varnish on their shoulder pads (to hide the shine of the transfers)

I realize im in the minority with my color scheme as 90% of this forum hates the GW style space wolves blueish grey armor. I personally love it and it's was a large part of why I decided to play space wolves. Either way, enjoy.

Nice job mate! i particularly like the TDA wolfguard and the Lone Wolf, though Ragnar looks a little overweight. (that belt gives anyone wearing it +2 beergut imo hehe) :P

thanks, and yea i definitely could've planned my ragnar out better, but it works for now. After I'm finished a squad or two I may make a new Ragnar conversion or perhaps convert Morkai and use him as my primary wolf lord.

Well done. I think after Bran Redmaw's Company, Ragnar and Morkai's are my favourites. And atm Im still deciding between the two companies, having just read the Space Wolf Omnibus. Your excellent paintjobs have made the decision harder!

I'm interested in seeing your interpretation of Erik Morkai. While this is your interpretation and not mine I beg of you to keep in mind his fluff as a user of ambush tactics and his heavy usage of scouts and what sort of impact that would have on him as a Wolf Lord in terms of gear choice. Cough.

Also out of curiosity do you have a theme behind your war paint? A friend of mine and I are building a Wolf Army for me so we're bouncing numerous ideas between us and instead of your a-typical pack markings we've been juggling the idea of war paint to replace the pack marking on the shoulder.

For Morkai I am definitely keeping in mind the fact that he is the stealthy wolf lord. however, I know I cant gear him in scout armor and i dont think terminator armor fits with the description of stealth either, so looking at the fluff Im thinking runic armor because his twin brother is a rune priest (perhaps a gift from his brother), and I want to give him "quiet" weapons (no chainswords, no power fists, thunder hammers, etc). maybe a frost blade and a combi melta with a silencer and scope. Im hoping to keep him shaven and pale, with dark eyes and scars all over his face. No decorations on his armor except for a few scratches and runes.

as for the war paint i just thought it would bring a little extra character to the model. making him look more like a celtic warrior or someone out of the movie "braveheart". Hoping to see your war paint if you do choose to use it instead of pack markings. sounds like a cool idea to me.

Fantastic! And definitely a good direction to go in.

A long time ago I started a DIY chapter and my chapter master was kind of the equivalent to Shrike: fast and agile, stealthy, dual weapons, etc. To represent his speed, prowess, and flexibility in battle he had small shoulder pads with bare arms and it actually looked good. With power armor on the chest and legs he can really blend the line between scout and marine leaving his gear, runes, trophies, pelts, etc. to accentuate his status as Lord. Plus your painting skills will also help as they are quite top notch.

Morkai, maybe?

Anyway; I am thinking of doing morkai as well, and I'd love to see some scouts from you. Been toying with the idea to have 3 scout packs(have played with two, and it went really well) and I think with your painting skill, you could inspire me a lot.

I like it, too Looks fantastic on your minis.

maybe dual wc's and nicely converted wolf cloak wrapped around him instead of flowing back and open would be appropriate for him, or maybe a frost blade and PP.

Very good suggestion you got there. Kenmichi as well. Im definitely going to do morkai with a wolf cloak and bare arms. I'm still deciding on what weapons loadout to give him. all i know is that it cant be loud. i like the idea of dual WCs or perhaps even dual frostblades. I still have a lot of models to paint before I do another wolf lord conversion though. about 3 more WG in TDA, and a full squad of GHs.

everyone else thanks for the encouragement and comments. Ill try to update this thread as often as I can with new pictures.

These are brilliant. You can tell you put a lot of TLC into them and blimey it shows. I especially like the white morkai shoulder pad. Black and white are always very catchy colour choices (and most importantly they are not yellow! A colour I hate with GH). It would have been my second choice for a Great Company. But my favourite is the Wolf guard w/ frost axe and war paint (the first one). Excellent.

Keep the pics coming! :tu:

Bear in mind that a Frostblade is actually a chainsword with different teeth. I'd try to model him in a prowling stance. I saw some pictures of a Wolf guard and Scouts on the net who looked like they were stalking some foe.
