rodgambit
It really depends on the theme of your army. So first decided if you want to use rhinos, drop pods or foot slogging. I use footslogging so I find long fangs, a rune priest with storm caller and multiple scout units necessary. If you are using rhinos then scouts may not be as necessary and if your using drop pods you might want to go with drop podding dreadnaughts. Most people seem to like a rune priest and 2 packs of grey hunters as a standard though, so that is a good place to start with a 500 point game and then build from there. I run 3 packs of grey hunters in my 1500 list and my rune priest is basic 100 points. Special characters are cool and if that is your theme or fluff then go for it, but I would rather take a basic rune priest and an extra grey hunter pack then a special character that is 200+ points. (At least in my 1500 point games). When I play games in the 2000 point range I use the last 500 points to add new things like TWC, but I try to run a good all comers list with my first 1500 points. n00b in need
i got a lukas the trickster and njal models along with the 10 man squad set, i made 5 Wolf guard, 1 Wolf Lord w/ 2 frost swords and 4 blood claws since lukas counts as the fifth. i have already ordered my next 10 man squad and am thinking about turning it into all Grey Hunters. I also just added 5 more SM veterans to the wolf guard with lots of wolfy bitz, my question is: Should i make the blood claws a 15 man squad or keep it at 5 since lukas can't use his cloak until the squad is dead? Frontline989
Since you need two troop units minimum I'd do, 10 Grey Hunters x2 Plasmagun Powerfist 10 Grey Hunters x2 Meltagun Powerfist If you want to include Wolf Guard then just take away one special weapon. Thats a nice start IMO. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190765-solid-units-to-comprise-a-list/page/2/#findComment-2264060 Share on other sites
Wildfire
I'd prefer some mix of the following: 7-9 Grey Hunters, 1 flamer, Wolf Guard with powerfist, rhino -or- 7-9 Grey Hunters, 1 melta, Wolf Guard with powerfist and combi-melta, rhino -or- 5 Grey Hunters, 1 melta, Wolf Guard with powerfist and combi-melta, razorback -or- 10 Grey Hunters, 2 plasma guns, rhino Depending on how aggressive you are, you may want large squads and/or more special CC weapons.
