New Army - pictures

So, about a year ago when I got into 40k, I painted my Wolves with a shadow grey. My problem with this scheme is because of the black undercoat, they looked far too blue - almost like crimson fists. I've only been at this for a year, too, so my model quality since then hasn't been terrible consistent. I decided to salvage what models I could (vehicles, metals, etcetera), and continue with painting new models made from the new kits, with the goal of making the scheme consistent.

I show my models off constantly at other places, but have always been too intimidated to show them here. today, I'm deciding, "Why not?"

Sure they are citadel!

The only thing not citadel is I use Tamiya Haze Grey spray to do most of the base coat. It speeds up the army painting process, and helps keep me sane, for the most part.

And yeah, the banner was my first big freehand attempt. Pretty terrifying! I'm super pleased with how it turned out.

How do you do your plasma glow btw? It looks very good, especially the front of the gun, if you get what i mean.

I painted bright colours in the shadows, and dark colours as the highlights. So, the brightest, deepest colour is Space Wolves Grey, and I mixed with it outwards with varrying mixes of Ice Blue. Once I got to pure Ice Blue, I started mixing outwards with Regal Blue. The dullest colour was Regal blue, which is what the surfaces around the glow are painted.

For the armour - it's just a codex grey basecoat, a wash the recesses with pure badab for the shadows. Fortress Grey is applied as the first highlight, with pure skull white as a second extreme highlight.

Intimidated by who??? For a chap who has been painting for a year, you have got the whole thing under-wraps! Congrats and keep thos pics coming. ^_^

Ditto, what NR said! They look very good after just a year. I would not want to compare my "one year" minis. You make me want to switch to codex grey.

Agreed, Ive been in this for well over a decade now and frankly your paint job is better than most of the stuff Ive ever put on the table.

Im not the biggest fan of that particular method of highlighting mind you, but youve done a bangup job on it.

Wow great job, How did you get the yellow on Grimnars so bright.

Also what do you use as a basecoat. my problem is the black bits behind the knee and elbo joints. so I always start with black.

This is one of the friendliest forums on the web. I love seeing people post pictures of thier painted wolves no matter what standard pf painter or modeller they are. People should never be afraid to post thier work up here. At worst you will get some advice on how to improve what you have done or tips.

So

Vlk and any others who feel intomidated please just post some pictures. I much prefer those topics to help with army builds.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I admit I got into the hobby to paint, so my year of progress isn't that surprising to me (I went through so many models practicing) and playing the game just sort of happened by accident half way through. :tu:

It's not for everyone, but I find I enjoy the illustrated, comic-booky look it has going. Some people prefer super realistic paint jobs, but I say there's enough room for both.

Beef, as said previously, I sprayed the models with Tamiya Haze Grey spray to get the base coat. Simple and easy. For Grimnar's yellow, i based the shoulders with vermin brown, and then built it up with mixes of golden yellow and vermin brown. adding more golden yellow until it's pure yellow (takes about three layers). I'll hit the recesses with gyphon wash, and then clear up the yellow areas with the golden yellow again. Highlights are done with sunburst yellow. It's a pain..

Quillen, I guess you're right. When I attached the feeding tube, I just considered it an extended belt of ammunition, loading into the hopper. I guess it might not work that way in practice, but I think I'll keep it as is.
