Wolf Lord Idea - Sven Bloodhowl

Well I figured I'd bounce this idea off my brethren before I put the plan into action.

After the release of the new codex, the new fluff for Harald Deathwolf really put me off using his GC. So, in the near future I'll be changing the GC pads of my painted guys as I found a new Wolf Lord to follow in Sven Bloodhowl. I'm just working on my initial idea for his model.

Basically for his fluff; he is fully covered in tattoos of his saga and has the Fire Breather as his symbol and is accompanied by 'a great horde of close combat specialists'.

I was thinking about this in game terms and how best to represent him. This is my initial plan:

Saga of the Warrior Born

Combi-melta/flamer (fire-breather reference)

Frost Blade

Belt of Russ.

I was going to have him in power armour with the wolf helm model wise and work from there. The only problem I'm coming across is how to bring out the aspect of him recounting his saga upon himself on the model. Any suggestions?

Hi there!

In the second paragraph of page 39 of the SW codex (Wolf Lord entry) it mentions Bloodhowl using a Thunder Hammer, just thought I'd let you know about this piece just in case. However seeing as he is a Wolf Lord there is nothing saying he doesn't use a whole variety of weapons and therefore you could kit him out as you've suggested, he is the boss after all!

As to representing his sagas it mentions using enemy skins, so you could simply greenstuff (if you're up to it) skins onto him, how to do this I don't know. Alternately there might be some skins somewhere else in the range.

I am a BA, player, and my only experience of the SW is William King and Lee Lightner's novels, but, is Sven Bloodhowl the Sven from the Ragnar series?

Very unlikely, we don't know what happened to Sven after the novels and as he also served in Berek Thunderfist's company he could only really become a Wolf Lord of the company Ragnar now commands. Unless a company was completely wiped out and Sven happened to be one of the Wolves assigned to a new company I can't see it happening.

I've played around with the idea for rules for Sven for a while and ideas for his model.

I would intend to stay true to when the Codex refers to him carrying a Thunder Hammer, but, with a built in Heavy Flamer.

I'd just love to make one with his Fire Breather symbol in the middle, being the heavy flamer, and then the Thunder Hammer built around that.

Personaly I also imagen him being a fast mover, so not in TDA, but one hell of a force to stop, so I think that justifies feel no pain too.

Oh, right then. But, I am willing to bet that, if he is still alive, he will be in Ragnar's wolf guard at the very least!

Or perhaps he's not even real....?

on another note: I much prefer Erik Morkai and his predisposition for Wolf Scouts, or maybe Krom Dragongaze for his love of Wolf Gaurd.. My two fave SW units!

Your not the only one who was not particually happy of the new fluff on the lord assosiated with their Company badge, I play my own wolf Lord, Alaric Thunderwolf, but because of the codex everyone assosites him with a rude bloke who can't pay attention and burps a lot and has 12 year olds attachement to loud noise, though I assume the description in the codex is an act he puts on to fool people, I am still using My own Wolf lord.

My favorite Great Company design is the Mechanized Company and the definition of the current Lord, along with an undesirable name, literally describes him as the ugliest Wolf Lord and as more metal than flesh. Not a fan of this I simply took it upon myself to go a few hundred years prior of the current era to create what I would assume to be the previous Wolf Lord to this Company. To tie in my Company's relation to the current era my Wolf Guard Battle Leader with Saga of the Hunter is Erik Morkai (Since he can now OBEL with scouts) and I'm fielding Ulrik the Slayer, though I do have to jazz up my Arjac model a bit since a) I don't think he's even a Blood Claw during my time and B) he's Logan's guy.

Take a look at how some salamanders players paint flames on their models-that might look pretty cool on him. Someone above mentioned that, but Sallies might be a good place to look for inspiration.

I would also give him a bare head to put some tattoos on. As to the skins, there's some skins in the fantasy warriors of chaos range that work with a little bit of bending. I don't know which kit they're in, sorry. They also might work better in term armor than power armor.

The thunderhammer would work better with the combi-flamer/melta-you'd lose an attack with the frost blade, and Russ hates inefficiency.

@Brother Captain

Sven from the books is not the same one. As of the last one, he was the meltagun guy for his Grey Hunter pack. While nothing is mentioned by Ragnar in any of the "present" sequences during any of the books, it is safe to assume has either died or is still and active soldier (now under command of his one-time pack mate) The books were very clear that Sven was rank and file, but Ragnar had the qualities of being a commander. He was always good in a pinch so Ragnar might have found him a spot in his WG or could be a LF carrying an IG issue mini-gun. :)

@ Fenrisian

Definitely check the Salamanders and the Legion of the Damned minis out for the flame painting tutorials.

Good luck on this great idea.

I am also doing Sven Bloodhowl and will actually be putting him together today! I got a box of Terminators because I feel if he's a close combat specialist he's gonna want that extra power/defense. I'm equipping him with Saga of the Bear (Eternal Warrior), a Thunder Hammer and a combi-flamer. I bought some micron pens so I could draw tattoos and stuff on him and maybe a giant flayed skin banner at some point from his back. As far as looks, probably bald only so he could tattoo and people could see it there too!

When the rumor mill was going on and someone read the fluff of Bjorn Stormwolf, I was nervous. However, when i read it I realized folks were taking his fluff too literally. It's not that he likes loud things, it's that he favors things which are very destructive. Things which are usually very destructive are ver loud. Tank cannons, Grenades, asteroids destroying the dinosaurs. So it is doubtful it is an act. It is doubtful that it is anything dim witted or child like.

hmmmm if it was me doing him i would give him power armour but use catachan arms and an unhelmeted head and paint tatoos all over them. i realy like the thunderhammer/flamer idea, i would also give him a banner on his backpack with a wolf pelt stretched across it and on the skin side have lots of little red runes painted on it. if you realy wanted to go all out i would have some of his wolf guard with banners of the same kind just to carry on the theme.
I thought about doing power armor or runic armor but the terminator armor is really good for a Wolf Lord who I plan to have fighting up there toe to toe, especially with him swinging around a thunder hammer. Going through design a design process right now... Can't decide how to do the flayed tattooed skin to continue his stories.
