Tantalus Lander Conversion

From following this thread: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=190165 I decided to design my own lander that looks like a mini- StormBird, see below. My objective is to make it much more versitile, however and have hatched a plan to include a modular transport capacity. Think if you will of a pod that has a Land Raider front and side assault doors and a longer cargo bay that is placed under the lander. This troop transport capacity pod can be swapped out to lift either Rhino, Razorback or Predator tanks into battle thus making the Tantalus Lander the defacto choice for Space Marine insertion flyer being smaller and more tactical than a Thunderhawk, and not to mention more playable due to its much smaller table top footprint.

So the fluff rumored so far about the Tantalus Lander being mistaken for the Thunderhawk, well you can just say mine was mistaken as a Stormbird like this one: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...t=0&start=0

Here are some pics showing the cutaway section and how a Predator fits inside. I also shortened the tail to let it better fit on the table top. Evetually, the propeller fans will be modeled like the stormbird jet turbines so it will be space capable. I will model the cockpit with two side by side pilots. Just getting started... and have a long way to go, but I think it's a great idea and a cheap model to convert. What do you guys think?

Er, why not just use the Osprey itself (I was about to say Vertibird ahaha) and stick the passenger compartment of the Rhino kit (instead of the whole Rhino) to it with the rear ramp facing the front? :) A good idea though, and all the vehicle needs is a spray-over that matches your chapter's colors.

Its gonna be an Imperial Fist flyer. I'll paint it once it's all finished.

The reversed rhino is a good idea, but I want to go with sliding Valkyrie type doors on the side of the troop pod and assault LR doors on the front so units can assault the turn they disembark according to the Tantalus Lander rumors. I'd be better off using the cargo and doors from a LR than a Rhino.

Getting the front assault ramp swing down open will be a challenge though, if you're just going to use the cargo part of a Land Raider, as I remember it slides along the walls to the part that holds the tracks. Good luck on finding a solution to that problem if you're not going to glue the door closed. :)

Magnets?

If you have a rhino and land raider you're ready and willing to hack up you could probably fuse the land raider's top hull with the rhino's hull and replace the land raider's front hull to allow you to use the rhino door in the front. That will also make the whole cargo bay look larger.

Though admittedly a better option would probably be just to scratch build the whole cargo bay from foamcore or even plasticard. Because otherwise it's just going to look like a land raider glued to a ship.

I've had some PM's about where I got that Scorpion Gunship from Avatar. I bought it at Toys R Us for $26 dollars. You can also get it on ebay and Amazon.com. There are a few other places that sell it too. Cheaper than a rhino!

I'm probably gonna do the prop blades like BulldogUK's Stormbird's jet engines but not sure the quick way to do the blades...
