Tybrus
Kind of rant and kind of question. I get the idea that wolves don't beam in, in fact I love it, and after a few games now, I hate only getting 1 drop pod per wolfguard pack, but you can put ten of them in TDA... Anyway... Love it fluff wise, but my question is why the hell do we have our Iron Priests tear out the Locator Beacons? Yeah we don't beam in TDA troops but why can't I land supporting troops next to each other on the table after initinal delpoyment? Lead Airborne assult alays have pathfinder units that first in. When I play my fists, and I pod assault, I drop 3 pods turn one and 2 in reserve. WHen the other 2 land they land within 6" of any pod that needs to be renfirced, or where I need to make a hard push. Add to this that the Beacons can be used for jump troops as well and its stupid that any Marine force would trust to luck to where there pods will land. If there is would about this maybe being fixed in an upcoming FAQ by chance that anyone might have heard about? In the Emperors Name I hope so... Until then Wolf pod assult will be like a world war II bombing run, if we drop enough on a target we just hope we will hit with some of it... Howling
Well maybe we don't have special drop pod assaults...because space wolves don't like drop pods either? ^^ Personally I think space wolves are more the walk by foot or inside a tank types of guys......I could go for some sort of turbo boosting for our tanks, but even those seem a bit off on the wolves... What I'm really angry about is the total lack of space wolves only apocalypse formations...like a rune priest circle or something like that.....there could be sooo sweet things but nope..only vanilla stuff.... Anyways, just my little comment on it.. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190925-we-aint-beamin-no-wheres/#findComment-2264142 Share on other sites
Spacefrisian
The SW not beaming is complete rubbish, Ragnar does it all the time in the novels. Durfast Spiritwolf
I get the beaming thing - not every army can be the same - but the loss of the locator beacon on drop pods or for scouts is less arguable Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190925-we-aint-beamin-no-wheres/#findComment-2264270 Share on other sites
LPetersson
The SW not beaming is complete rubbish, Ragnar does it all the time in the novels. He does it, but he doesn't like it. And that is exactly how it's explained in the fluff/codices. But yeah, it's a bit of a shame we don't have locator beacons. Having said that, outside of going over the table edge or purposefully landing on terrain you simply can't have a mishap with drop pods, so why worry? Hfran Morkai
Apparently the Wolves are quite renowned for our Drop Pod assaults, Ragnar especially...hence the whole "Claw of Russ" thing going on in the fluff. Having said that, outside of going over the table edge or purposefully landing on terrain you simply can't have a mishap with drop pods, so why worry? I think it's more landing accurately, deploying that crucial part of the force exactly where you want it t allow carnage. I was hoping Wolf Scouts would get a locator beacon because that could spawn some really cool conversion ideas and I like the imagery. However I'm not sure if SW Scouts are really suited for that line of work, they just seem to kill things and blow stuff up, which is good but also guiding in reinforcements would be cool. PKAwolf
my question is why the hell do we have our Iron Priests tear out the Locator Beacons? Yeah we don't beam in TDA troops but why can't I land supporting troops next to each other on the table after initinal delpoyment? maybe trying to land them too close together would lead to crushing accidents. the Internal Guidance Systems over compensate to prevent near-collisions, thus the semi scatared deployment. When I play my fists, and I pod assault, I drop 3 pods turn one and 2 in reserve. WHen the other 2 land they land within 6" of any pod that needs to be renfirced. I know Lysander has some special rules, but what is it that the Fists have to coordinate Podding? its stupid that any Marine force would trust to luck to where there pods will land. they also pray to their bolters bacause its supposed to make them function correctly, wrap your head around that one If there is would about this maybe being fixed in an upcoming FAQ by chance that anyone might have heard about? if they FAQ anything, it will be to unify transport sizes accross all chapters first Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/190925-we-aint-beamin-no-wheres/#findComment-2264575 Share on other sites
JCarter
The answer has more to do with gaming philosophy. You keep comparing actions in 40K to what real armies do. GW says they're not a wargaming company. I agree. To me, their iconic game seems to be Chutes and Ladders rather than Tactics 2. SamaNagol
It's a balance mechanic. One would assume that it made all drop pod lists too good in testing? Although I don't see how paying 45 pts for getting your terminators on the board when they already cost a premium compared to imperials is reasonable. That's some of my favorite fluff in the game. Tech Priest opens up an ork bolter and finds it's just an empty box with loose rounds rattling around in it. Ullr Direfang
The SW not beaming is complete rubbish, Ragnar does it all the time in the novels. and that was in books, just because it was written about the space wolves doesn't mean that it is 100% in line with Gdubs fluff. Also on the occasions Ragnar does teleport you will note that it happens to be when the fate of the Chapter is at risk or because he's told to by an Inquisitor. But Black library books are considered non-canon, unfortunately. Grey Mage
I agree.. I figured wed keep locator beacons, took me a couple weeks to notice they were gone. But Im truely dissapointed that we didnt get them for wolf scouts- I mean, its a large part of their job to gather forward intellegence for the first waves.... so why not givem the ability to call down the horde? Tybrus
Ok glad to know its not just me then. And Fists can pod like any other Codex Chapter with Locator Beacons. When you bring in ANYTHING via deep strike within 6" of the beacon then you don't deviate at all. So once you drop your first wave on pods on the field. Your 2nd in pods and land within 6" of any pod that landed in wave one. So any troops that are in trouble can be quickly supported. Or in my Case My Ironclad Dreadnoughts can be quickly supported with troops. As for real world vs. 40k you are of course right in most cases. However, I do feel that scout are ment to play the pathfinder role. They Secure the LZ and call in the assult force both in real world and 40k, well all scouts but Wolf Scouts. Wolf Scouts are more like Force Recon Marines (In real service)... Quillen
Oh you youngens crack me up. SpaceWolves use to teleport all the time. For some unknow reason they said we could not Teleport unless the whole army deep struck. Meaning our Termies could Teleport if the rest of the force was in Pods. Why? no one knows. It did not balnce somethingbroke. It just hurt us. Now we can't even do that. Which is a load of crap. But some moron wanted to punish us and force us to by pods for our Terminators which are paying more for the specail melee weapons as is. Evilbob
I love that we're so afraid of teleportation, yet Logan's champion has a thunder hammer with a mini one in it. And a locator beacon in his glove that we just can't seem to fit into a drop pod lol. Wouldn't he still be afraid of tele fragging that hammer into his chest or something? Not complaining about the rules, they are what they are, just find these things funny. Valerian
Techmarines with off table support Vortex Missile. Mentor Legion with targetting webs. I do not miss RT really. I don't miss it either. I don't think that we ever actually finished a game. It took all night just to play through a turn or two. 5th Edition is the best edition yet, in my mind. However, that being said, there were a lot of concepts in Rogue Trader that were lost/dropped and a lot of game mechanics from 2nd Edition that were pretty good. Those are the things that it is fun to look back on and remember. Quillen
That's Wierd I think 4th edition was the best codex. Most balanced to me. Then 5th having the best core rule book except for the nerfing of Fists. nerf and hicking the price is lame. Just me thou. We use to finish out RT day games, but they always ended in a slaughter of one side. Valerian
That's Wierd I think 4th edition was the best codex. Most balanced to me. Best codex? For which army? Space Wolves didn't even have a 4th Edition codex. Then 5th having the best core rule book except for the nerfing of Fists. nerf and hicking the price is lame. Just me thou. That's what I meant by the best Edition; Edition means core rules. I agree to your point about Fists, though, should have been one or the other, but not both. We use to finish out RT day games, but they always ended in a slaughter of one side. We played pretty big games, I guess, and usually had to leave the game board all setup in someone's attic or basement, so we could try to continue the following weekend. Of course, by then, we'd all forgotten what had happened the previous turn, so it was pretty frustrating.
