Chaos Lord Shamrockius
Hey all, I know that the Thousand Sons may not be special or even half decent on the gaming front, but I've always liked the backgroundand models on these, and frankly feel that the rules don't make them as strong or as good as they could be. However, having a liking of the models, and rereading an article on how to paint Chaos Warriors of Tzeench for WFB from a time when the Emperor (spit spit) was probably still alive, I had the idea of doing my Thousand Sons in this style. Here are the WIP pics of said 1ksons... http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv232/richfinegan/thousand%20sons/27c83501.jpg http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv232/richfinegan/thousand%20sons/fa726938.jpg http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv232/richfinegan/thousand%20sons/47e910a1.jpg More updates will be coming as they get heads and arms... which will be when Tzeench decides it will be so. And by Tzeench, I mean my girlfriend as she controls my painting time lately :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191037-thousand-sons-squad/ Share on other sites
Brother Tancred
They look great so far mate and I'd love to know how you've done the blue on the tabards? Chaos Lord Shamrockius
Oh the tabbards were easy... white and then the Asurman blue wash... done! Lestat
The bodies look nice and shiny, almost metallic. Did you paint chainmail on and then use a wash? Whatever you did, it looks really effective! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191037-thousand-sons-squad/#findComment-2265984 Share on other sites
Chaos Lord Shamrockius
Thanks Lestat. I tried just chainmail with a blue ink but it was a bit blah so I had to go a 9:1 chainmail and enchanted blue mix with the blue ink. It makes the blue quite a lot more "magical" than just the usual use of blue on the "factory" paint scheme. Add in the shining gold trim and it's set off nicely. The bluey-silver alone looks pretty cool as well but put the ink over it for a more stand out look. The only downside is there is no margin for error on the trim cos re-covering the main armour is tough... Terrible_Trygon
A tip; let the models dry upside down when you wash the tabards and robes. This stops the wash from pooling at the bottom of the tabard/robes and producing an unnatural effect. It's noticeable on the first marine. Other then that, I like these guys and I hope to see more of this. Capt. Lysander
Nice, I like the lightly 'accented' blue. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191037-thousand-sons-squad/#findComment-2269285 Share on other sites
