ashrog
With the popularity of rune priests in the new codex, it's natural that some players are going to want to take more than one. There is a pretty nice rune priest model, but it's metal, and there is only one, so no variation there. So, what if a player wants to convert a rune priest out of all those lovely new plastic bits? Here's the question: What do you add to the model to make it, without a doubt, a rune priest? Wolf priests have their crozius, that's pretty obvious. Rune priests, I guess get choosers? But that's wargear, and you have to pay points for it. Don't want to pay extra points just to make it clear that "No, that isn't a wolf guard." EricBasser
It's not as much as adding stuff to make it a Rune Priest. I would paint it differently than Wolf Guard. The shoulder pads can be different colors. Add Runes to the model, give the model a Runic Weapon. I thin a couple of the new bits have runes on them already. I make my Wolf Priests have Black Armor, my Rune Priests have the Fenris Foundation color armor, and regular troops and wolf guard have Space Wolves Grey armor with different colored shoulder pads. CainTheHunter
There is also the old Njal model in Runic Power armor, as well as the Rune Priest model in TDA (not Njal). Ikken
if you have the new space wolves kit , you can make one up easily . I modeled my rune priests up based on the naja model , with a runic staff I took the 2 handed axe , nipped the head off , extended the shaft with a piece of plasti rod and glued a wolf skull and wolf tail to the end . I added a few other small decorative bits from my bitz box as well and itcame out quite good . it looks very much like the runic staff the GW naja model has . i then used one of the bearded heads and the runic shoulder pads that came with the kit . and used the more elaborate legs and torso with the wolf pelts . he came out very nice . I think he is one of my better conversions , I have done 2 up so far and prefer using him to my old naja model . the entire build will only take a few minuites Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191043-what-makes-a-rune-priest/#findComment-2266070 Share on other sites
Ullr Direfang
with all the bits that come in the new boxes it should be easy even if you don't like the staff idea. you can just give him a axe/hammer of some kind and add wolf tails or skulls to it............. and i think i just thought of a great easy conversion..... TY for getting my brain going..... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191043-what-makes-a-rune-priest/#findComment-2266330 Share on other sites

Kenmichi
Trophies and magical paraphernalia. While Librarians are like Wizards, Rune Priests would be more like a Druid since their abilities effect the Earth, Nature, and Spirits. So expand upon that, make your Rune Priest seem and feel very nature oriented. And of course runic carvings are a plus, staves are good, books, balls of lightning, etc.. commander alexander
Well, first of all, you need to meet WYSIWYG, so you need; Standard stuff; -Power Armor (duh). This can be upgraded to runic armor, which can simply be represented by runes being painted on. Or it may be upgraded to terminator armor. -Runic Weapon. The codex says it most commonly takes the form of a staff or wickedly bladed ax. So you may represent it by some form of a power weapon, but defining it with extra bits, or a unique paint job would be recommended. (can find something suitable in almost any box) -Bolt Pistol. May be replaced by a plasma pistol or storm bolter. In terminator armor it is replaced by either storm bolter or combi weapon, all of these are pretty straight forward. Other options; -Jump pack. obviously you can use a jump pack from the plastic box, or any blister you deem suitable. Or you can go the more exotic approach and model him using some psychic mojo to be lifted off the ground. -Bike. Cant really think of anything other than a bike. -Melta bombs. There are quite a few in the assault squad box. -Woolftooth necklace. Honestly, as long as you have it in your list, i wouldnt worry to much aout having it on. otherwise the space wolf bits have plenty of them sculpted on the armor. -Wolf tail talisman. Available in either of the new plastic boxes. -Chooser of the slain. This one is a little more difficult.... Ive seen some plastic ravens around, but I don't know where to get them, you could use servo skulls from the devastator box. hendrik
funny nobody mentioned it but i find these cables running over a power armour chestplate characteristic for runepriests and librarians if you look closely to the metal rune priest model you can even make out some sort of small psychic hood like thing instead of the normal colar Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191043-what-makes-a-rune-priest/#findComment-2266496 Share on other sites
Ominous Anonymous
This isn't exactly a Space Wolf-centric look, but for my Lions Rampant (using SW rules) I plan on using cyber-skulls from the Devestator kit to represent a Chooser.
