And I thought this would be interesting, my Tactical Squad at different stages of completion.

Undercoat > Iyanden Darksun base coat > Sepia Wash(s) > Golden Yellow > Golden Yellow / Sunburst Yellow mix :)

Hi guys, I have finished my first 5 man combat squad. I just need to add the static grass, but aside from that they're done :D

I'm quite pleased with these guys, I think I'm going to continue with Imperial Fists for a while. I'm really enjoying painting yellow, and I really think that these guys looks better than my Son's Of Orar too.

I've just basecoated some scouts, I'm going to try my hand at painting camo, I'll show you the results when I'm done :P

I've another little update today, well I finished last night but the lighting was poor. I've finished the Scout Squad (I only have 4, the other was sacrificed to my other chapter ) Just squad markings to add at a later date.

Can't believe it has been so long since anyone has commented on this thread. Your yellow is fantastic, and I am jealous of how patient you must be to do so many coats.

The tactical markings on the sergeants shoulder pad is great, are these going to be added to the rest of the squad?

I am slightly concerned about your mention of sacrifice though, you sure your not a chaos cultist?

Thank you for your very kind words, if I spend ages painting my IF's I spend less cash buying them :)

He wasn't sacrificed as such, more of a promotion to a Telion stand in, in another Chapter. As for the markings, yeah I'll be adding more, I was a little scared incase I messed up as Black would be quite hard to mask under Yellow :P

Have previously commented on DJays work and will do again........Most excellent work Brother!!! ;)

Thank you very much, it's appreciated :P

I've a question for you folk at the B&C,

I'm thinking of buying the Black Templars upgrade pack, however it's fairly expensive for well, bits. My question is do you think those bits would work well with an IF army or do you think it would look odd? I really like the parts but I don't want to waste my moneys.

Halp please ;)

I know exactly what you mean with the markings over yellow, its one of the reasons my Lamenters are currently devoid of all designations. I am waiting till my painting skill improves a bit before I gamble!

With regards to the Black Templars upgrade pack, I think it could work quite well. I have bought it alongside the Dark Angels and Space Wolves boxes to help add variety. If I remember rightly, didn't some pre-heresy fists fight with the templar style cross?

On several of the torsos and weapons the crosses can be removed with careful knife work, as well as on a couple of the shoulder pads. The vehicle sprue has the most obvious Templar details, and the hardest to remove.

Tbh though, I think you could get away with using the sprue without removing any. As long as the items off it didn't become the dominant feature through the army ( so people didn't think they looked like yellow templars).

I've purchased the Fists Assault Pack for the Fist pads, so I was thinking if I add the Fist pads and say a Bolter here and there to add variety, I could use the robed torso's for the commands Squad. I think the weapons will fit in nicely too.

Thank you for the imput, it's very much appreciated.

Hey guys, another little update here.

http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/3087/terminatorwip.png

He's a good way to completion but still needs work.

I also had my first go at painting a stone sort of effect, I'm fairly pleased with it. I used the 'Eavy Metal technique from WD 357 but without the Denheb stone step.

Also, some more bases arrived today, huraah! Here's what I'll be using to base my Fists (Painted versions of these are used on the Tactical and Scout Squads)

Pictures work just fine here. Very nice terminator, although I hate how good your yellow is :D

For me the hammer is a little bit too shiny and silver, but thats just my personal preference and nitpicking. Keep 'em coming!

Cheers, ID

Thanks alot mate :)

great looking yellow there, :D maybe if you use badab black wash on the hammer it will give a strong realistic metallic look

Thanks :D I might try the wash, although I did wash it then did another layer of Boltgun metal.

Another update for ya :)

First off, the Terminator Sergeant..

Not too keen on the banner, might go back and re-do it.

About the Black Templar upgrade pack, I am in the same situation, except that I bought the pack first, but then I saw a picture of an Imperial Fists Dreadnought in the post your dreaadnought thread (pic is broken now though) and it made me switch to IFs, even though i finished a crusader squad.

Anyways, I think that the chains on all of the weapons bits would look awesome on Imperial Fists, the only parts that I don't think would work that well would be the torsos, with the robes and such.

Keep up the good work!

Wow!!! Those are AMAZING! I love your yellow! I don't recall anyone asking, so how do you do your yellow? (if you would share that secret with me/us )

Very smooth yellow Dejay, those 'Fists are looking really good. That Veteran Sarge is one of my favorite mini's and you sir have painted it amazingly well. Keep up the great work :)

Might I ask where you're getting those resin bases from, I'm on the lookout for some cheap ones (I need around 30) and they look pretty good for 10 for £2.

Thank you very much indeed.

The Yellow is easy.. ;)

- Chaos Black Basecoat

- Iyanden Darksun

- Golden Yellow (Lots of thin layers)

- Sunburst Yellow Highlights.

Hope that helps.

Thanks alot mate, it's one of my fravourite mini's too. As for the bases, they're from Foundations of War, they have an Ebay shop.

Nice yellow. This is very similar to my technique for painting IFs... which I will be doing again soon with some AoBR marines.

Thanks alot, I'l keep an eye out for a log.
